On May 28, 1961, Amnesty International was born. On that day, we didn’t know a simple idea — people should not be jailed for their beliefs — would spark the largest, most powerful human rights movement of our time.

Happy 50 birthday Amnesty International from my heart with my family and all my friends. Thanks to the leadership, activists and all branches of AI and AI USA which relentlessly protect human rights in all parts of the world, stand up for small and nameless people who would not even know anyone could help that there is no AI.
In the cold cells of Tito's communist Yugoslavia, in solitary confinement of the most notorious prison in southeastern Europe, Goli island, where I was imprisoned for four years writing and collecting signatures on a petition for amnesty for all political prisoners, Amnesty International is me and my parents were the only hope that I will with God's help to survive.
My friend Ernest Brajder was arrested with me and killed by secret police, but perpetrators of this crimes still enjoy the full protection of Croatian authorities, although Brajder killed in November 1980.
The judge who sentenced me when I testified on Bradjer murder today is a judge of the Supreme Court of the Croatia and President of the Commission for the appointment and dismissal of all judges in the Republic of Croatia.

I hope this year will be the year that you focus your efforts on protecting defenseless baby boys from the horrific human rights violation that is routine infant circumcision.
Don't baby boys deserve the same human right of protection from unnecessary genital cutting that baby girls deserve? AI defends baby girls from genital cutting, why not baby boys?
Over a million baby boys a year are crying out for help. Will 2011 be the year AI hears their screaming?
