Why all the fuss about this one drug? States & countries that are determined to kill convicted criminals have many drugs to choose from. ANY anaesthetic or opiod in a high enough dose will make someone unconscious then stop their breathing. If the concern is a humane death, that would do it.

For Geode: ANY anaesthetic or opiod probably cannot be used because the execution drugs and procedures are set in either state law or written protocalls. It's not easy to re-write red tape.

The next debate in Nebraska will likely be about whether we should change the execution protocol so we don't have to use drug dealers to procure sodium thiopenal. I wrote a bit about this a little over a week ago: http://kohenari.net/post/13829658675
