A huge step forward: IVAWA passes in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee!

The International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA) (S.2982) just passed in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee! The IVAWA is the first comprehensive piece of legislation in the United States aimed at ending violence against women and girls around the world – it would support innovative programs to help victims, hold perpetrators accountable and prevent violence.

This is a HUGE and long awaited step forward to passing this landmark piece of legislation that will help to prevent and respond to violence against women globally. Many thanks to all of our incredible activists and supporters who have taken action to help pass IVAWA – we would not have gotten this far without your dedication and activism. Your calls, letters, emails and faxes to your members of Congress have been critical to educating our elected representatives about this important issue and crucial to shoring up their support (and their votes!) for IVAWA!

BUT WE ARE NOT DONE YET. While passage of IVAWA in committee is a huge step forward, we still have to pass IVAWA in the House of Representatives and bring the bill to the floor of both the House and Senate for a full floor vote! Time is running out as Congress begins to wrap up but we can do this! Please continue to reach out to your elected officials – let your Senators and Representatives know that you want to help end violence against women and girls globally and ask them to PASS IVAWA NOW! Let them hear your voices – that it is UNACCEPTABLE that one in three women has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime, with rates of domestic violence reaching 70% in some countries.

We can make a difference – tell Congress to pass IVAWA now.

  1. Please pass Ivawa. It is not only important for all women, it is important for men to understand as well……..of course! We are all in this together. We as women, as mothers, raise men and they must learn where the boundries are in their relationships.

  3. IVAWA needs to be known by everyone. Every woman should be blogging and supporting IVAWA. Please let us unite our voices to blog massively about this law. Post and re post in your facebook, and any other social network.

Passing IVAWA means taking the first step into making the world a safer place for half human population: the female population. And if women are safer, families are safer, and life is better preserved.

Poverty is violence, but even worse, violence IS poverty. When IVAWA is passed, a huge step towards the eradication of poverty will automatically take place, as communities will be less violent, not only because people can be held accountable for the same type of felony against women all over the world, but because the way societies look at violence will change.

    Thank you for supporting IVAWA!

  5. I have dealt with personal degradation and know other women who dealt with similar problems. I don't understand why beautiful women with good self esteem allow themselves to be hurt (either verbally, physically, or economically). It makes me sad when I see anyone who has been emotionally violated, simply because they idolize their boyfriends or men who have money or have promised them some amount of financial security and then choose to leave them after they gain weight or a few wrinkles appear on them. That is not love or respect at all. Don't ever insult me as a woman, or tell me I have to cook or clean or love you. Most men are totally UGLY and deserve castration or a hard kick below the belt. The only reason men work or flaunt money is to buy revolting sportscars or obscene houses, to impress their barbie-like, so-called girlfriends. Money doesn't impress me – only humanitarian respect impresses me.

  7. Actually, Barbie is okay.

I used to play with Barbie dolls when I was 6 years old, and me and Barbie had a great time.

    Barbie is fun.

  8. There are many nice men in the world, who would NEVER, EVER harm a woman.

    I believe that.

Let the awful people of the world rot in their graves.

    Go shopping more.

    Shopping IS NOT a crime.

But remember: ALWAYS pay for what you buy with some form of currency.

No good store anywhere will allow you to shop if you don'y PAY for what you buy.

Don't steal or touch the "product" unless you want to buy it.

    DON'T STEAL.

    And always have good manners.

  9. Many women are total bitches from hell – and they cause arguments.

Many women beat up their husbands and then blame THEM.

Lots of men are defenseless and nice.

  10. I've gotten into a few "fights" and I usually win or just "walk away".

Sometimes you can never win an argument.

Watch TV instead. Or get drunk in a responsible way.

TV will never harm you. A television is just a nice wooden or plastic box.

  11. Never let a police officer "beat you up". Before being harmed, say something nice, like "God Bless You", or compliment them on their civic responsibilities. Not all police officers are bad, but if a cop doesn't like you for personal reasons, they can destroy your mind, your body, or your self-esteem.

More women or compassionate men should be police officers.

    Women deserve respect. Don't they?

  12. There is no reason to trust many people in with various degrees of business

    or medicine.

Stay away from a woman's body.

Please do not violate a woman's body ever.

  13. Women should be taught basic things about abstinence or contraception in High School and College.

No woman should have children until after the age of 25 or 30.

Many intelligent women choose to not ever have children.

In the United States of America – you can do whatever you want if you are a girl or a woman.

I have always been an American.

I value my freedom all of the time.

You can get married if you want to.

But you do not have to do anything at all………….
