  1. It will be Obama's legacy that he did not close this U.S. offshore torture base when he had the chance. His promise proved to be just as phony as all the other presidents who failed to live up to their own words. Mendacity speaks for itself.

  3. Come on World Leaders – get with the programme… 1 earth = 1 people: enough said.. lets share what we have and make it better for everyone. Stop torture and abuse, there is no need for it. Torture and abuse is one of the lowest form of thinking.

  4. Just one question addressed to Barak Obama, "Why haven't you closed Guantanamo like you promised?"

  5. @Jeannette… Obama didn't close GITMO as promised, because his spineless democrat colleagues in the Congress and Senate were too indebted to the military lobby and to conservative voters, who they need to get re-elected, to support him and make it law… So now we're going to have the crazy spectacle of what amounts to a show-trial – military Jury – Pentagon appointed defense lawyer… boy who was 15 at the time, blown up and short through the back… subsequently kidnapped, threatened and tortured, "tried" to see if he committed a crime, by lobbing a grenade at a member of the US military while under attack. It's inconceivable that any non-German 15 year old in WW2, who fought against the Allies. would be held for 8 years without trial and then show-trialed. What's really on trial here is the legality of the eight years of the Bush regime but I'm not holding my breath…

  9. Guantanamo? Cuban Guantanamo? Why don´t you talk about the Cuban HEROES, prisioners of the Killers Castro? You are cowards, no doubt, because you have afraid of the dictators…

  11. if Omar had been released after his capture at age 15 on the basis of his being a child soldier, he would have been returned to his family.

Would this really have been better for him? Honestly you think?

It is Omar Kahdr's own family that proudly admitted in interviews broadcast on Canadian television that it is they, Omar's own family, who committed the original war crime against Omar by forcing Omar as a young child age 11 to enroll as an Al-Qeda fighter.

Use of children in warfare as fighters is a war crime against the Geneva Convention. Amnesty International never seems to mention this when they demand Omar be returned to his family. His family are the ones who committed the first war crime against Omar by sending him away from a nice safe Canadian childhood to serve in combat in a war in Afghanistan at age 11.

Omar's mother, older sister, older brother, all have appeared on Canadian Television defending Al Qeda and the 9/11 attacks and suicide bombings. This is their right under freedom of speech, but would it be in Omar's best interest to be freed from Guantanamo only to be sent back to Canada to live with this awful family and to be exposed once again by his family to this kind of sick pure evil brainwashing ?

The disgusting criminal abuse Omar suffered at the hands of his own family, his mind poisoned with hatred from birth, sent off to fight in a war as a little child, easily equals if not surpasses any crimes that the US did to him after capture.

At least in Guantanamo he was safe and protected from his own family who could not commit any more war crimes against him.
