Don't Let Georgia Kill Troy Davis

Troy DavisThe day is now here – the state of Georgia has set Troy Davis’ execution date for September 21st.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear his final appeal earlier this year.  But the story remains the same – Troy Davis could very well be innocent.

However, in the state of Georgia, the Board of Pardons & Paroles holds the keys to Troy’s fate.  In the days before Davis’ execution, this Board will hold a final clemency hearing – a final chance to prevent Troy Davis from being executed.

Davis was convicted on the basis of witness testimony – seven of the nine original witnesses have since recanted or changed their testimony.

One juror said in a CNN news interview:

“If I knew then, what I know now, Troy Davis would not be on death row.”

I know it’s difficult to believe that a system of justice could be so terribly flawed, but keep in mind that Troy has survived three previous execution dates, because people like you kept the justice system in check!

We’ve been bracing for this moment and the time for action is now!  Here’s what you can do to join the fight:

1. Sign our petition to tell Georgia authorities to grant clemency!  Let’s flood their inboxes with messages to stop the execution.

2. Organize for Troy: Take to the streets with us on Friday, September 16th!  Sign up to organize a rally to stop the execution of Troy Davis.  And RSVP for the International Day of Solidarity on Facebook.

3. Join our #TooMuchDoubt Twitter campaign:  Spread the word about this injustice by tweeting a “Doubt a Day” about Troy’s story.  Follow us @amnesty for tweets or use some of these ‘doubts’ in your tweets:

  1. i'll do this for you. then, will you please stop the same thing from happening in texas. all facts and state of the art forensics aside, they still want to kill larry swearingen. fair trade?

    thank you,

  2. Justice…..that's what our courts are supposed to represent and serve. How can we take the life of someone without any hard evidence? Our system of justice is very flawed and needs cases like this to be overturned to fix the errors.. Deb Jones

  3. Clearly there is more than reasonable doubt about his guilt. Please don't make the mistake of killing a man who might not even be guilty of this crime.

  4. Death penalty and the execution of a man whose guilt has not even been proven by a 100 % is nothing else than irresponsible murder!
Please be wise and merciful !

    Thank you !

  5. The death penalty should not be used when there is "no reasonable doubt." It should only be used when there is absolutely NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER. In this case, it seems like neither criteria is satisfied – there is in fact reasonable doubt. Don't kill a potentially innocent man.

  6. Every American should be terrified. If this could happen to Troy Davis it could happen to them.

  9. Recanting witnesses is enough for any intelligent person to stop an execution, please for the love of god, THINK about what the effects of killing an innocent man will have on your souls.

  11. AI, please tell me that there will be rallies, protests, etc. BEFORE the day of his execution—we should be having them every day, until the national media broadcasts the ''reasonable doubts' and illegalities of the trial. I'll come, even tho I'm 4 hours away. Maybe I should just come to the office of the P&P and pitch a tent outside their office. Decorum be damned, we're talking about humanity.

  12. Can we get 1 million people from surrounding states to protest in front of the governors mansion? If the Egyptian people overthrew the evil dictator of 30 years, we can fight to save an innocent condemned man. After all, we are all Troy Davis…

  15. THE SYSTEM MUST PROTECT ANYONE FROM A CONVICTION ACQUIRED WITH " reasonable doubt.”, ARE WE TRYING TO MEET A QUOTA??? TECHNOLOGY HAS COME TOO FAR TO LET AN INNOCENT MAN DIE. LET'S NOT COMPARE OURSELVES WITH OTHER COUNTRIES. AMERICA IS THE STANDARD FOR FEARLESS JUSTICE. RELENTLESS ON THE PURSUIT OF JUSTICE. THIS IS 2011 PEOPLE.

  16. I think that Troy Davis has every right to live because he has not been proven guilty of anything. I also, do not agree with the death penalty.

  18. I do not stand for the death penalty, first because it is barbaric and then because if there is any doubt about the guilt of the prisoner it is flaws in the way many capital cases are heard leave the possibility of innocent people being convicted. Finally, I subscribe to the notion that it is better for someone who is guilty go free than that an innocent person die at the hands of the state. Err always on the side of life.

  23. justice?

    justice?
    what is this?
    what did davis do?
    was there a photograph, video,
    evidence, that proved this true?

    voice of the masses,
    of all different classes,
    calling to stop this,
    death penalty pain, blood stain,
it simply must not go through,

    not on peace one day,
    not by false dismay,
    not by ill decree,
    not by you or me,

supreme court deaf to this call?
justice blind, can't see us all?
troy's life, now on the line, join amnesty,
please grant his life some time, grant clemency!

  26. It is a cruel and inhuman punishment. It has never demonstrated its deterrent value. A state makes a killing premeditated murder. It is synonymous with discrimination and repression. 31. The death penalty is one of the most HYPROCRITICAL actions we as a nation find ourselves instituting!! "Thou shalt not kill" So it is illegal and reprehensible for a citizen of this UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to take the life of a fellow human being and yet the government has made it legal and morally right to kill in the name of "justice?" Really? Somehow I find this to be an incredible injustice! Killing one for another DOES NOT, WILL NOT, CANNOT bring the dead back to life….nor can it ever FULLY REPAIR the HARM of the initial death. Repairing harm done to humanity is not solved through continued murder at the hands of the goverment! SIGN THE PETITION and then and only then can justice begin…

  33. This is not the image the state of Georgia wants to give its citizens of these United States of America! Mr. Davis continue to say he did not kill that officer and the person who did…has also come forth. There is not reasons to kill Mr. Davis over the truth of someone else who did kill that officer. I hope and pray that those who are involved with the demise of Mr. Davis will not let this happen until a court hearing trail is done. Mr. Davis did have any real reason to kill that officer, except, he was pointed out as doing so. That is not proof he did anything of that nature. If Mr. Davis is put to death, it will not be the last of hearing from him; his sole and spirits will haunt the court, the families who are hurt, and those who put him to death for the rest of their lives! I would not want to be involved with killing Mr. Davis under any circumstances!

Justice is all the right of human kind to execute a man when reasonable doubt is certain and to carry it out having clearly established reasonable doubt it is continuing the act and legacy of lynching. A legacy that was a hall mark of Georgia and Southern justice for a century after the Civil War. Is this not the case with Leo Frank http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Frank almost 100 years prior a justice system swayed by popular opinion to satisfy the cries of "hang the Jew!" Or the lynchings of African Americans atop Stone Mountain and Sun Down towns like Forsythe county. Are we to believe the New South is new only in name but deeds are those still of the Ole Lester Maddox policy of Jim Crow where the poor, under educated and dark skinned are to be shot in the back by rogue cops, murdered in jail with tasers or grandmothers shot in their homes while on the coach? Your excellency Governor Nathan Deal, I am not a man of economic means or person of any social or political importants. But I am a man that respects human life and as such bewildered and vexed by the message of those in power who say human life is valued only by station or wealth by their policies and deeds. I believe as all do that the victims family deserve Justice but if Mr. Davis was executed and later it discovered to a certainty he was innocent would they not be party to a sanctioned lynching in their silence or insist? I thank you for any and all consideration you have given this request and hope that on September 21st you are given to wisdom by a moral and Divine guidance.

  40. The Death Penalty is another way of describing MURDER. Putting a person to death for a crime that has not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, is MURDER. Innocent until proven guilty – remember? All who participate in the facilitation of the murder of another human being, are responsible for taking the life, murder, of that person. We all need to evolve from this barbaric idea that MURDER is an acceptable form of punishment. It serves no purpose other than to satisfy our most base, primal, human desire for revenge, and retaliation. It is time to rise above!

  46. If you go ahead and execute this man, who sounds like he's innocent as nearly all the witnesses have recanted, you will be commiting a crime in the eyes of God & an atrocity in the eyes of humanity.

  47. There has to be irrefutable evidence to execute anyone, too many innocent people have been executed only to be exonerated later. Then, it's too late. Best to make certain first even if it takes years. The jury members have to agitate those that decided they would not convict him now.

  49. there is so much proof that so many people who've been put to death were in fact innocent. the death penalty is immoral. in troy's case, it seems obvious that the state wants him dead for some reason, even though there isn't conclusive evidence to convict him of the crime. it is the state of georgia that will be guilty of murder if this death sentence is carried out…and then where will justice be? where will we be, as a society, if we allow this to happen? this cannot be allowed to happen, ever. unfortunately, this looks like another case of racism & hatred by southern white cops for black men. how many more black boys and men have to be enslaved, imprisoned or put to death before we, as a society say, STOP! no more!! we will not allow you to kill an innocent man!

  52. To kill in the name of justice – an execution – doesn't help, it doesn't provide justice, it doesn't ease any pain, it doesn't change something wrong into something right. It only increases pain, sorrow, burden and also guilt.

to execute : this is against human rights – just to remind everyone what we are faced with. And this happens every month in the United States. The No 1 country? The No 1 leader of this civilized world ? Many many important questions to answer…..
Georgia should make the important steps to follow the states that already abolished the Death Penalty.

In the name of justice, in the name of humanity : Clemency for Mr.Troy Davis

  53. It seems there is overwhelming evidence that Troy Davis is not guilty. It would be a terrible injustice to kill him. It is also a grave injustice to keep him in prison. Please take steps to release him from prison and him a huge apology and financial compensation. It is important to correct this grave abuse of human rights.

  55. The death penalty must be abolished. How can we; a so called civilized and free society, execute a man who might very well be completely innocent. It could be you. It could be me. Your son, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister, uncle, neighbor… And it is.
It is barbaric. It is an atrocity. It is not acceptable. It is time to stand up.

  56. Justice can only be called justice when it is seen to be done. The Troy Davis case spotlights the US legal system and its flaws. How a legal system can be prepared to execute a man when there is strong evidence to indicate his innocence is unconscionable. America was built by the founding fathers on the basis on "Liberty and Justice for All", a commendable premise.
However, the Troy Davis case like many other recent cases, brings the due legal process of law in the US into question. This process suggests that provided you can execute the right people most of the time, it is unimportant that a few innocent people slip through that net.
The American legal system needs to be reminded that "Liberty and Justice for All" should mean just that and that it is not acceptable to execute a possibly innocent man.
As the evidence is not clear that Troy Davis is guilty of this capital crime, I would appeal to you for Clemency in this case.

  58. The Rev. Jesse Jackson, or the Rev. Al Sharpton, or one of the prominent ministers involved in this case need to go en masse to Redd Coles and help his family convince him to turn himself in. If Jesse Jackson and Jimmy Carter can negotiate hostage deals, surely they can arrange a life without parole plea deal with Larry Chisolm for Coles. One of – if not the – most important jobs of a Christian minister is to teach those who do wrong about the redemptive force of forgiveness, which can only begin when one accepts responsibility for one's actions.

  61. Hi all,

even he is guilty, ban the death penalty forever!
A State shouldn't have the right to suppress its citizens, whatever they did.
As usual, USA (few States) is behind every other occidental cowntry concerning human rights, especially in his own land.
The talion law is obsolete and death penalty never scares bad people!

  62. I'm not a death penalty advocate and I truly beleive that there have been many innocent people (especially African Americans) put to death in the USA. That is probably why we are getting this divine retribution from the terrorist around the world. What you reap, is what you sow.

  66. Saoirse, posted on your e-mail, let me know if that doesn't work. Good luck and thanks for what you're doing! We've all heard 'beyond a reasonable doubt' all our lives, via t.v. if not elsewhere—it is as basic to our legal system as it comes. Sleep well, Troy, in God's arms.

  67. I’m not a death penalty advocate and I truly beleive that there have been many innocent people (especially African Americans) put to death in the USA. That is probably why we are getting this divine retribution from the terrorist around the world. What you reap, is what you sow.

  68. I don't have an argument about the death penalty. I can't say how I would feel say someone murdered my beautiful daughter and they KNEW it without a doubt AND proved it in a court of law. I would like to think I could still forgive a perfect soul with an unperfect decision making process, but you never know. I do however think it doesn't sound like there is any evidence in this case to prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. I think that since this is an officer involved case that they are pursuing the case with a vengence and a large amount of revenge. If it wasn't a police officer killed, and they had the same evidence, he wouldn't be on death row. He would even have great standing to win appeal for a new trial. They need someone to hang. This is just sad.

  72. As a species we will all face our maker when He asks "why did you sit back and not speak up for truth and let this innocent man die?". All those who have heard this story are morally obligated to hold vigil until this conviction is overturned. We MUST make this right.

  73. @Laurie Delpino: yes, I agree. Any person who fancies him- or herself as a HUMAN being (morality being the foundation of our construct of humanity) has an obligation to stand up for truth and justice EVERYWHERE, no matter if s/he believes in the personal he-god entity idolized by westerners, or has experience of the one, true G_d and remembers his/her last in-between life judgment. More to the point, it appears as though SOMEONE has made a potentially fatal error by not organizing a group of these prominent ministers who've done the photo op with Troy to go and talk with Redd Coles to try to get him to turn himself in (helping people who've done wrong find forgiveness by acknowledging their errors and attoning for them is the MAIN JOB of a Christian minister). Coles' family have been trying to get him to do that on their own, and probably would have succeeded by now, had Jesse Jackson arranged a life-without-parole plea deal with Chisolm for Coles to sweeten the deal. If he – and Jimmy Carter – can negotiate hostage releases in foreign countries, this should be a piece of piss for either of them, don't you think? Why don't you go to Al Sharton, or RainbowPush Coalition, or the Carter Peace Center's website, or FaceBook page and ask them to do this?

  74. Why do we KILL PEOPLE who "supposedly" KILL PEOPLE to show people that killing people is wrong? If its wrong, well then its WRONG!! PLEASE DO NOT KILL TROY DAVIS IF THERE IS NOT 100% fact that he killed!!

  85. The state of Georgia could very well execute an innocent man. Isn't this enough to stop this cruel and inhumane action. Many states have stopped executions on the grounds that too many innocent people have died. Follow their example and know that you do not have the death of an innocent man on your conscience. Remember, he, too, is a human being, worthy of our concern and respect.

  102. What "overwhelming evidence" Mr. Major Mike Hide? Read this …..NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE….NO gun, no prints, no DNA, no scientific evidence…..NONE…ZERO….Nada…..0!…..9 witnesses of which 7 recanted…..GET IT? Mr Hyde!

  103. Does the Georgia legal system want an unnecessary death on their hands because they weren't willing to seek the truth? Why does the state of Georgia believe itself to be above the law and the Constitution?? Troy Davis' circumstance has garnered worldwide attention because of this ignorance. Killing a man is never right. Killing a man even in the midst of doubt and with unclear evidence to support his judgment, is even worse. In the United States of America, a man is considered INNOCENT until PROVEN GUILTY. Troy Davis has NOT been proven guilty. Please grant him clemency. Really, please just RELEASE Troy Davis!!! He's served a long enough sentence for this madness anyway.

  104. I, Karen Nyreen want to call upon the courts to grant Troy Anthony Davis a new trial or evidentiary hearing. Peace.

  121. This is as much of a frame up as Sacco and Venzetti and the Scottsburo boys of the 1920's and 1930's. These are the legalized killings. There is also those who die at work because of greed. BP oil disaster and those who die in coal mine just to namea few. Than there are those who die in the wars of capitalism. Ask the people of Vietnam or Korea how much they like 'American democracy". Only a revolution like the one over fifty years ago in Cuba can bring about an end to this slaughter. A state where the workers and small farmers execize power can bring an end to this slaughter. No single reform or change of ruling capitalist class party can acomplish this.

  122. If the state of GA kills a man without evidence ans recanted testimony from a witness ( in this case seven ), the state of GA and it's entire government are just as guilty as the one that committed the crime. look and study all of the facts before deciding a humans fate. The best way I can state this…what if it was you, your father, your brother, or your son?

  123. 1) 10 witnesses ID'ed someone else.
2 ) 7 of the original 9 eyewitnesses who ID'ed Davis later recanted their testimony.
    3) No physical evidence to link Davis to the crime.

What part of 'reasonable doubt' doesn't the governor understand?

  140. A plea from Troy Davis!

Where is the Justice for me?

Where is the Justice for me? In 1989 I surrendered myself to the police for crimes I knew I was innocent of in an effort to seek justice through the court system in Savannah, Georgia USA. But like so many death penalty cases, that was not my fate and I have been denied justice. During my imprisonment I have lost more than my freedom, I lost my father and my family has suffered terribly, many times being treated as less than human and even as criminals. In the past I have had lawyers who refused my input, and would not represent me in the manner that I wanted to be represented. I have had witnesses against me threatened into making false statements to seal my death sentence and witnesses who wanted to tell the truth were vilified in court.

For the entire two years I was in jail awaiting trial I wore a handmade cross around my neck, it gave me peace and when a news reporter made a statement in the local news, “Cop-killer wears cross to court,” the cross was immediately taken as if I was unworthy to believe in God or him in me. The only time my family was allowed to enter the courtroom on my behalf was during the sentencing phase where my mother and sister had to beg for my life and the prosecutor simply said, “I was only fit for killing.” Where is the Justice for me, when the courts have refused to allow me relief when multiple witnesses have recanted their testimonies that they lied against me?

"Because of the Anti-Terrorism Bill, the blatant racism and bias in the U.S. Court System, I remain on death row in spite of a compelling case of my innocence. Finally I have a private law firm trying to help save my life in the court system, but it is like no one wants to admit the system made another grave mistake. Am I to be made an example of to save face? Does anyone care about my family who has been victimized by this death sentence for over 16 years? Does anyone care that my family has the fate of knowing the time and manner by which I may be killed by the state of Georgia?

I truly understand a life has been lost and I have prayed for that family just as I pray for mine, but I am Innocent and all I ask for is a True Day in a Just Court. If I am so guilty why do the courts deny me that? The truth is that they have no real case; the truth is I am Innocent.

Where is the Justice for me?"

  156. Don’t be like Texas, that state is barbaric ….what is planned is murder, not justice. He might not be a boy scout but neither am I…. he was framed for this murder.

  157. Georgia,

We all have to face our maker, open your eyes, do you want the blood on your hands, if this man who has not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he is guilty, be executed. It is sad information that would represent his innocence is NOT HEARD.

  158. What kind of justice is that ? the govenor should be there on the death row….in overall our goverment needs a new face…..remake over……The justice getting out of hand….this Man has not ben proven guilty & this Governor wants to kill him … then he is a murderer not that man …

  159. This is no justice, either to Troy Davis, or to the officer who was killed. This has to stop!

  160. I have been the victim of a biased court system, and it was eventually reversed with prejudice (which means prosecution can not bring it up again). I know the courts make mistakes. Everyone knows they make mistakes and DNA evidence has proven that many convicted of murder are innocent.

The only case the State has is the lies manufactured by the police and prosecution. I believe that what is happening in Goergia is akin to the worst kangaroo courts of middle eastern countries.

I further believe that, even though courts try to set themselves above the law, everyone who has had a hand in this is guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and should be tried on that charge.

If the parole board and the governor don't do the right thing, they are equally culpable.

  162. Do not execute Troy Davis given that no physical evidence has been presented. There are too many inconsistencies between his trial date and today.

  166. This touches my heart, deeply. Let Troy Davis live & walk FREE! The corupt system must be fixed, one victim at a time. Sign the petition, send emails & most of all PRAY that Troy get the justice HE deserves.

  167. Do not execute Troy Davis given that no physical evidence has been presented. There are too many inconsistencies between his trial date and today.

  168. I'm praying that Georgia officials will not take it on themselves to violate this man's right to justice under the law and will take a look at the new evidence in his case. I don't understand how they can possibly use recanted evidence against him and proceed with this execution. Please, for the love of all human decency and for the sake of true justice, do not let this execution go forward. If this man is executed using faulty evidence, think of what you will say to God on the judgement day.

  172. This is just yet another travesty where an innocent man is being convicted of a crime and the prosecution doesn't want to admit that they are wrong…it's time we all stood up in solidarity and band together to fight the tyranny we are facing as a society. WE are all in this together, white, black, asian, latino, and every other race I have not mentioned… WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  175. With big questions unanswered to resolve a case is a very minute reason to put away a human life. Civilized society have greater responsibilities than to be led with unquestionable belief than the pleasure of just denying a chance to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

I do believe that Troy Davies ought to be given his full rights to be proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

  176. I have to add. Life is more precious than just satisfying one's joy of unfounded killing of an innocent man unless proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
Please let Mr. Troy Davis live. He deserves to prove himself.

  180. No physical evidence!

7 of 9 witnesses have recanted their statements saying that their's were coerced. All report police coercion. One of the 2 who did not recant is is known to have been involved in the coercion of all 9 witnesses. Sylvester "Red" Coles — the principle alternative suspect, according to the defense, against whom there is new evidence implicating him as the gunman. Nine individuals have signed affidavits implicating Sylvester Coles. He is himself is a prime suspect in the murder.

A final chance to prevent Troy Davis from being executed: Before Davis' execution, the Georgia Board of Pardons & Paroles will hold a final secret clemency hearing that will not be published. Secretive? These government servants must speak to us regarding Sworn Affidavits at

  187. PLEASE…I AM OPEN FOR ANY COMMENTS TO MY STRONG THOUGHTS/OPINIONS BELOW–PLEASE DO READ MY ENTIRE PIECE/BIT OF THOUGHTS/OPINIONS I HAVE PROVIDED, IN REGARDS TO THE SCHEDULED EXECUTION OF TROY DAVIS.
I DO HOPE TROY DAVIS WILL RECEIVE CLEMENCY [ONCE AGAIN], THUS REQUIRING THE COMMUTE OF HIS SCHEDULED EXECUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AS EVERYONE/MANY PEOPLE SAY AND IS/ARE RIGHT ABOUT:
"TROY DAVIS IS GUILTY FOR/OF A CRIME HE DID NOT COMMIT!!!!!!!"
THAT BEING SAID, IN MY OPINION OF COURSE, THE GENTLEMAN MUST/NEEDS TO BE PARDONED AT ONCE–THE MAN MAY BE/IS INNOCENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE…LET THIS BE A CASE SIMILAR TO THE "WEST MEMPHIS THREE–"THE THREE MEN WERE FINALLY SET FREE, RECENTLY THIS YEAR, AFTER THE POLICE/WHOEVER/PROSECUTOR(S) HAD NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE CONNECTING THEM TO THE HORRIFIC, SADDENING CRIME–ONLY WITNESSES OF THAT CASE TESTIFIED/SAID THE THREE BOYS [AT THE TIME THE CRIME WAS COMMITTED, THE 3 PEOPLE WERE YOUNG, NOW THEY ARE ADULTS/MEN] WERE GUILTY!!!! AND YES…THE "WEST MEMPHIS THREE" CASE IS APPLICABLE TO THIS CASE, REGARDING TROY DAVIS'S LIFE–NO PHYSICAL, AND/OR [IS] LACKING EVIDENCE–ONLY WITNESS TESTIMONIES AND RECANTS!!!!!!!

NOW…ASK YOURSELVES…IF THIS HAPPENED IN THE "WEST MEMPHIS THREE' CASE, SOME 10-20 OR SO YEARS AGO, COULDN'T THIS HAPPEN IN THE CASE OF TROY DAVIS?!…ABSOLUTELY, TROY DAVIS COULD HAVE HIS "DEATH SENTENCE" "COMMUTED" AND POSSIBLY BE A FREE MAN!!!!!! SO PLEASE…WE [OUR NATION] FREED THE
"WEST MEMPHIS THREE…" WHY DON'T WE FREE TROY DAVIS TOO, ESPECIALLY SINCE THESE TWO CASES ARE SO SIMILAR, ASIDE FROM BEING IN SEPARATE STATES, OF COURSE!!!! THERE ARE A TON OF THINGS IN OUR NATION THAT ARE CORRUPT : LAWS/RULES, COURTS, ETCETERA–THIS IS ALL OBVIOUS–I'M JUST REITERATING THIS!!!!!! THIS SAVANNAH GEORGIA COURT, OR WHOEVER [SUPREME COURT, Georgia's Board of Pardons & Paroles, ETCETERA]…IS ALL A HUGE LOAD OF CORRUPTION–[SOME] CRIMES/LAWS ARE NOT JUSTIFIED RIGHTFULLY AS THEY SHOULD BE [WHAT WE BELIEVE IS RIGHT, AS PEOPLE/HUMANS].

THE CASE OF TROY DAVIS IS A FANTASTIC EXAMPLE OF THIS KIND OF CORRUPTION–THIS MAN SHOULD BE FREED, IF POSSIBLE, BUT NOT…
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES AT ALL…BE EXECUTED/PUT TO DEATH–THIS KIND OF INHUMANE KILLING, ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS MAN MAY BE/IS INNOCENT, IS UNACCEPTABLE BY ANY COURT OF JUSTICE/ANY SYSTEM OF JUSTICE IN THIS NATION, AND EXTREMELY, INDEED DOES GO AGAINST ALL [PEOPLES] BELIEFS OF HUMANITY!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE…Georgia's Board of Pardons & Paroles…BE HUMANE…DO NOT KILL AN INNOCENT MAN…IN REFERENCE TO…TROY DAVIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOW…IF the Georgia Board of Pardons & Paroles, in the state of Georgia, carries out this Execution of this so-believed innocent man…due to LACKING HARD PHYSICAL EVIDENCE, then that just proves their [Georgia's Board of Pardons & Paroles] decision is an absolute PERFECT Example of CORRUPTION…along with their own system!!!!!! I BELIEVE RACIAL DISCRIMINATION PLAYS A FACTOR IN THIS DECISION BY THE GEORGIA BOARD–THE MAN MAY BE BLACK, BUT HE [TROY DAVIS] DESERVES ANY EQUAL AND FAIR TREATMENT AS ANY OTHER PERSON WOULD!!I THIS MAN DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE PUNISHED BY "DEATH–"A LIFE SENTENCE WOULD BE MORE THAN ENOUGH PUNISHMENT, BUT NO PUNISHMENT SHOULD BE INDEED FAIR…CONSIDERING THE MAN HAS ALREADY SERVED AT LEAST 20 YEARS IN PRISON, BEHIND BARS!!!!!!
IN REGARDS TO Georgia's Board of Pardons & Paroles…PLEASE SPARE AN INNOCENT MAN, TROY DAVIS–ONE WHO IS INNOCENT DOES NOT DESERVE TO DIE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY HAVE NO, OR VERY LITTLE EVIDENCE CONVICTING THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE…SAVE TROY DAVIS, AN INNOCENT MAN, DUE TO DIE VERY SOON [September 21st, 2011 [Wednesday], from EXECUTION, BY LETHAL INJECTION!!!!! I DO HOPE PEOPLE WILL DO AND SAY EVERYTHING THEY CAN, IN REGARDS TO THE TERRIBLE DECISION TO EXECUTE AN INNOCENT MAN, TROY DAVIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOD [PLEASE] BLESS THIS MAN, AND HIS SUPPORTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  191. Dear Friends,
Here, in France, many people think with a lot of fervor about Troy Davis, and pray very deeply about Troy Davis, especially in this day : the 19 th september 2011… May the Members of the Georgia Board of Pardons really understand and realise that Troy Davis is innocent, absolutely innocent…
Troy must live, and he really should be released very soonly…
That is my opinion and my prayers from the bottom of my heart.

  196. I think that all charges should be dropped and Troy Davis should be free to go home being that 7 of the 9 witnesses has sign a petition and has recant their testimony. If they are so sure that Troy Davis is the person that killed this officer then why not retry him with another trial. They would know that justice would definitely be served and they would have to release him. They would take a chance on killing a innocent man then to just retry him and thats "ONLY", because he is a black man. Evryone deserves a fair trial, and I do mean everyone.

  200. I don't know very many particulars about this mans case, but I do know I trust Mr. Harrison Jackson's judgement in such matters. I pray for this mans soul and the souls of the people who have unjustly passed judgement upon him. May God have mercy on them all. Question, the man is incarcerated, he can do know harm, what harm could come from revisiting the evidence. Better a hundred guilty men go free, than one innocent man be punished.

  201. They would take a chance on killing a innocent man then to just retry him and thats “ONLY”, because he is a black man. Evryone deserves a fair trial, and I do mean everyone.

  202. I AM TROY DAVIS!!1
Stand strong, stand together for Troy Davis
    Dear Friends,
You may ask yourself "why does this matter"? Well, it matters– the laws of this Country are meant for all –not just for those who can afford the best attorneys that money can buy or for that matter– Judges! Before someone can be convicted –let alone be executed in this country there is something called "reasonable doubt" that would prevent such a miscarriage of justice! I urge you to take a stand –because it does matter–there is a trickle up and down effect for failing to do so–and no one is immune from Courts and Judges failing to do their jobs and uphold the laws and constitution of this Country! Please take the time to forward to your own email lists –sometimes even a small effort -matters!
    Thank you.

  205. This action involves so many people besides Troy Davis. Who can sleep on Sept. 21, knowing that this man might be killed by the State? How can excutioneers live with themselves knowing that they might have killed an innocent man? What if you were on the jury that made this decision? Can the governor of Georgia ever feel comfortable, knowing that he could have changed this outcome? For the sake of Troy Davis and many other people, please reconsider this case.

  206. This situation is believable about certain Georgia local police though very unfortunate about Mr. Troy Davis. It's obvious what has happened to Mr. Troy Davis will keep happening to others if it is not stopped! Thanks to Amnesty International for exposing the truth an helping Mr. Troy Davis. Anyone with any common sense can tell by looking at him, he did not commit the crime he was (falsely) accused of, he is not a killer.

  209. Strange that a country that claims to be founded on Christian values doesn't uphold the ten commandments.

Death penalty as such is wrong. Death penalty for someone who is probably even innocent is complete non sense and an abuse to humanity. Too many wrongfully accused have been murdered in the US.

  211. Please be reasonable don't execute Troy Davis, YOU the Georgia Parole Board, the District Attorney YOU will be the murderers. There is plenty of reasonable doubt in this case. PLEASE don't execute him.

  212. PLEASE…there is so much doubt in Troy Davis' case. I'm sure it would be difficult to grant clemency, but it's going to be even worse when you send a man to be executed and he's innocent. Stand up for what is right here…PLEASE! Save Troy's life. Do NOT execute him.

  213. Please think about the family of this man. Think about your own family and think about yourself and your own life.

How would you feel, when they find out, that this man was innocent and you killed him?

I can promise you, that, no matter what the justice say, you feel horrorable, when you know, that you had the power aand you failed.

Jesus said, the own, who made no mistake, should thow the first stone.

And what I think is our chance, as long as we live we can do better. What could you do better, when he is killed. Do you think, he will forgive the one who killed him?
But if he forgive, how would you feel?

    Please sabe his life.

    SAVE HIS LIFE!!!!!!!!

  216. United States of America belongs in the 1st world? Well i am so glad I neither belong nor live there. I know there are many good Americans but a country that practices democray and has DEATH PENALTY? I am not a Christain but does not one of the ten Commandments say thou should not kill and yet you condemn abortions? This is absolutely barbric.
For those who commented here say Troy Davis should not be executed unless proven guilty , meaning if he was found guilty he should die, an eye for an eye?
God, what kind of people are? If you've really have anything to say then it's should be condemning any kind of killing or vengance otherwise keep your comments to yourself and start practicing for peace like the rest of us who are in Amnesty
my prayers are with Troy Davis and his family

  218. I'm literally sick over this. I can't look at his photo because his face is engraved in my mind and I choke up every time I see it. What is this, the Middle Ages? Have we as a people of a free and so-called just country, not entered the stage in our history that knocks us in the head and says, "Hey, barbarism has been over for hundreds of years." To me, this execution is no different than death-stoning or beheading a person in public because a blind onlooker pointed him out and said he was guilty. I'm sick….completely sick. 🙁

  221. And I am sick, too. I cannot get this out of my head…Troy is there, all the time. I am appalled by the State of Georgia. Nobody can truly believe that this is right or just. And regardless of whether you believe in the death penalty or not (I do not, just to go on record), this is wrong…absolutely, 100% wrong. I believe that Troy Davis is innocent. I believe that this is a horrible, horrible mistake that the State of Georgia is about to make. I can't sleep…I'm horrified by this. Please, please, please…I hope that "the board" reconsiders or Obama intervenes, or the Chatham County District Attorney intervenes…SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!

  224. In August 2010, however, a US District Court in Georgia ruled that Davis had failed to prove his innocence and denied him a new trial.

The fact that "Davis had failed to prove his innocence" suggests that American law is quite different from British (Common) Law whereby the presumption of 'innocence' prevails until the Prosecution proves 'guilt' beyond all reasonable doubt.

In British Law then, the burden of proof is thus on the prosecution, not the defense.

IF American Law does in fact contradict the profound principle that one is considered innocent until proven guilty, then whatever the last minute outcome of events today, it must surely be as a landmark opportunity to initiate proceedings so as to change America's institutionalised lynch mob mentality for the better and to change American Law along with that betterment

  239. Under the law a defendant in any criminal case must be proven guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt". And if such "reasonable doubt" can be demonstrated after the fact a mistrial can be declared. In Capital Murder cases this safegard is imperative for reasons too obvious to elaborate here. If this man is executed at this time a travesty of justice will have been committed and you will not be able to erase that from the Publlic Record. WHAT is the rush to be yourselves guilty of murder? For then two crimes will be on your hands: the death of an innocent man and the aiding and abbetting a dangreous criminal. Do you really think the Legal Process will stop there? Why should it? Explain please.

  245. Judge William T. Moore Jr., US District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, on 24 August 2010 ignores one of the oldest legal principles by speaking these words:

"A federal court simply cannot interpose itself and set aside the jury verdict in this case absent a truly persuasive showing of innocence."

Since when has someone in the U.S. verify that he/she is innocent?

I say this is my and the only legal principle: "In dubio pro reo."

    Best regards from Germany.

  246. You kill and commit crimes with a gun you need to be taken out of society!!! Plain and simple. Of course there was no gun found at the scene. His buddy picked it up and didn't take time to pick up the cartridges. You walk the path of crime and take another person's life, and are convicted, you deserve the same. I object to paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep murderer's in prison for entire lifetimes. Law abiding citizens are twice victims. Innocent citizens being killed and then supporting the killers in prison for years. Let a Troy Davis murder one of your family members and you most likely would not have the bleeding heart!!
    Get real people.

  268. Where were all you hypocrites when Brewer in Texas was put to death last night? He has claimed since day one that he did not kill James Byrd, only that he helped beat him up ;the other two involved slit Byrd's throat and tied him to a bumper and dragged him. There were no witnesses to that murder except of the ones involved and they are ALL convicted and in prison. Did i believe him? No, just like i didn't believe Davis. But I'm not on a website protesting the death penalty for one and not even mentioning the other like you idiots! I bet most of you are a bunch of white-guilt ridden self-loathing pansies and are afraid you'd be called RACIST if you mention Brewer's name. You pussy crybabies turn my stomach!!

  269. I AM LATE ON SIGNING THE PETITION FOR TROY DAVIS AS I JUST SAW THE NEWS ON CNN BUT I HAVE A QUESTION FOR THE FAMILY OF THE POLICEMAN WHO LOST HIS LIFE.

I HEARD THE SATEMENT OF THE MOTHER OF THE SAID POLICEMAN AND I HAVE JUST A SIMPLE QUESTION FOR HER – WOULD THE EXECUTION OF ANY MAN BRING A SENSE OF JUSTICE AND PEACE TO HER MIND.

MADAM, WHEN 7 OUT OF 9 WITNESSES HAVE RECANTED OR CHANGED THEIR TESTIMONY THEN ALLOW ME TO TELL YOU THAT THIS IS ENOUGH FOR YOU TO REQUEST FOR THE TRUTH. AS RIGHT NOW, YOUR SON DID NOT RECEIVE JUSTICE BASED ON THE SERIOUS DOUBTS THAT MR. TROY DAVIS IS THE PERSON WHO KILLED YOUR SON.

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM OF ANY STATE OR COUNTRY SHOULD NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXECUTE A PERSON. MAY BE IT WOULD BE GOOD TO ASK FOR THE JUDGES THAT GIVE SUCH DEATH SENTENSES TO GO AND DO THE LETHAL INJECTIONS THEMSELVES. I BET ONCE THEY HAVE WITNESS THE WHOLE PROCESS, THEY WILL THINK TWICE BEFORE DEATH SENTENCING ANOTHER HUMAN BEING.

THE LAW IS TO PROTECT AND SERVE BUT NOT TO SERVE AND KILL PEOPLE.

TO THOSE WHO ARE IN CHARGE OF APPLYING THE DEATH SENTENCE, MAY I KNOW WHEN YOU GO HOME AT NIGHT WITH YOUR WIFE AND KIDS AND THAT YOUR LITTLE ONE ASK YOU WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY AT WORK!!!!! DO YOU REPLY "NOT MUCH MY DARLING, DADDY JUST EXECUTED TROY DAVIS".

ANYWAY, I AM JUST A SMALL VOICE AND I CAN ONLY SAY "MAY GOD HAVE MERCY FOR ALL THOSE (FROM WITNESSES, JUDGES AND EXECUTORS) WHO DECIDED TO SEND TROY DAVIS AS WELL AS ALL OTHERS IN THE DEATH ROW"

I am not racist. I am against the death penalty. I am not happy that anybody was executed or that there will be any more executions in the future. I, however, strongly believe that Troy Davis was innocent. I believe that Brewer was guilty. Neither one deserved to be executed.

YOU HAD ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION OF REVIEWING WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF GRANTING CLEMENCY. YOU SIMPLY WENT THROUGH THE MOTIONS!! WE ARE NOT BLINDED BY YOUR FALSE "JUSTICE".

MY HEART BREAKS FOR THIS INNOCENT LOSS OF LIFE AND HIS FAMILY.MAY GOD'S PEACE WITH YOU ALL.. I'M SO SORRY…….AND EMBARASED BY THIS TRAVESTYOFJUSTICE ….. GOD BLESS YOU!!

  277. Mike: There was evidence linking Brewer to the crime. There was no evidence linking Troy Davis to the crime.
I am not racist. I am against the death penalty. I am not happy that anybody was executed or that there will be any more executions in the future. I, however, strongly believe that Troy Davis was innocent. I believe that Brewer was guilty. Neither one deserved to be executed.

  278. Amnesty International is another liberal based organization with the perverted believes that all killers should be rehabilitated and given a second chance in society. Tell you what….when the killers victims get a second chance….then the sensible will listen to your arguments. You people are pathetic.

  280. AMERICA will now be known as:

AMERICA – Land of DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO!!!

  281. Ann Dunlop: There WAS evidence linking Davis to the crime in the positive id of clothes he was wearing by witnesses who didn't even know him. There was also bloody spotted clothing on those same clothes taken out of his mother's house. But because dna testing wasn't available back then and the clothes were recovered without a warrant, they were not offered as evidence during trial. They were tested several years later, but the blood was so degraded that the test consumed the samples without results. And for anyone of you who might say that the witnesses who recanted were indeed coerced…by the NAACP and/or the lawyers provided to Davis by them and Amnesty International!!! All I ask of you all is to read the entire Police investigation file and the court transcript from the Davis trial…I bet you won't think your boy is so innocent after.

Thank you God … the goal has been achieved and many of us are not just happy but Very Happy that that murderous scum has been executed. However, many of us also mourn for the victims of this murderous scum’s crime. Those of us who actually recognize the true victim as opposed to you bleeding-heart socialist liberals.

And for all who want to bash the police, courts and such … why don’t you tell us who the murder was instead of standing at the finish line and sceam bloody murder for the bloody murderer. Tell us who murdered this young father and police officer … and give us the proof.

    Didn’t think so ……………………

Why are you all focusing on the murderer? Why no concern or long-winded, bitter, finger-pointing, accusation filled rants for the victim of this murderous scum. Why not be concerned for the police officer and his survivors? Sure, a few of you will utter a brief word or sentence about them but then back to how horrible it is that this murderer is an angel and the world is all wrong?

Law enforcement got it right, the courts got it right and with God’s help, the soul of troy davis got put right where it belongs – in the burning depths of hell.

I thank God for the poison used to put this worthless excuse for a human being to death. Thank God for the execution of troy davis. And may God watch over the selfless and ever-watchful eyes of the courts and law enforcement who got it right again.

  285. FThe result of the ruling that sentenced to death, Troy Davis is nothing but pure racism and murder, it had to be 9 are evidence in its favor, while 7 were withdrawn, I think this is just corruption.
Why a state like Georgia that is Catholic applies the death penalty: even the Pope has asked to withdraw the appeal for the death penalty.
This should be a democracy, where are the rights of human beings ????Following Troy Davis' execution I wrote this message on my facebook page:

  287. O'Bert…do you really believe that God was smiling when Troy Davis was executed? Not a chance. And there was no outrage over Brewer not because there aren't people who oppose the death penalty, but because the circumstances were entirely different. I personally think Brewer should have spent his life in solitary confinement…no computers, or education, or gym privileges…because I oppose the death penalty. I believe that Troy Davis was innocent, but aside from that belief, he should not have been executed because there was TOO MUCH DOUBT!! Too many unanswered questions. And another man who is still running around free who has admitted to murdering Office MacPhail. So no, I don't think either execution should have happened. The outrage over Troy Davis' was because he was not guilty.
God is not happy over this…not at all…and your praising God for this execution is sacreligious.

  288. Sure Ann … and God told you this while the two of you held hands and wept for that murderous scum troy davis?

God is aware and responsible for not only the good but also the bad. Not only what you or I view as good but what you or I also view as bad.

So God decided troy davis should be executed and made it so.

So you while you try to convince yourself that you are right for worshiping at the feet of mass-murderer troy davis, you make excuses for not giving a damn for someone because YOU think he was guilty. Interesting …

I thank God for allowing troy davis to finally pay for his heinous and evil deeds. Thank you God for executing that murderous scum.

  289. Dear O'Bert,

Since you brought my name up in this context, I thought I should take the opportunity to clear up a few things with you.

I, GOD ALMIGHTY have put you on earth to love one another and to love me. Only I, not you, shall judge the souls of men.

Oh, and I'm sorry for creating you with such a tiny penis. I honestly thought you would attempt to make up for it with a big heart, but I guess I was wrong.

    -God

  290. @Ann, althought very tempting to respond, I find it best not to, when it's obvious a commenter is hateful and doesn't know that God is love. I think only God can change that, not any one of us. Garbage in, garbage out.

  297. I think the court should consider all of the circumstances, criminal, check the accuracy of eyewitness testimony and physical evidence collected at the scene, then make the most informed decisions, offenders offense will be subject to appropriate penalties under the law
