Act Now to Stop the Execution of Brandon Rhode

[Update 12:15 am (Sept. 27): Brandon Rhode was granted a stay of execution by the Georgia Supreme Court on Friday afternoon, a few hours before his second execution date.  The stay will be in effect until Monday, Sept. 27 at 4pm.  He has been scheduled again for execution for Monday, Sept. 27 at7pm.  Please continue to take action!]

The state of Georgia wants to execute Brandon Rhode tonight at 7pm. Please take action – ask the Parole Board to stay the execution. Amnesty International just released a new document about the cruelty of the death penalty, highlighting this case and underlining the irony of President Obama’s speech to the United Nations promoting the need for the world to focus on the respect of human rights.

Rhode’s lawyers are scrambling to halt the execution stating that a meaningful competency review of Rhode has not been made. Almost 90 pages of documents about his hospital visit early in the week following his attempted suicide were only just today sent to his lawyers. Other documents have also been slow coming to them that are critical in mounting an intervention around his competency to face execution. It seems that Rhode’s attempt to take his only life, using a razor blade to his arms and neck, have been inconvenient to authorities who have been tasked with taking his life. Rhode is not an innocent man, but he is a human being and what we as a society do to him speaks volumes about who we are and what our values are. The state is making us all complicit in an unnecessary and outrageous act of cruelty.

  1. Brandon cut his neck himself in a foolish attempt to avoid his execution. He will finally meet his maker tonight at about 7:10 ish and the world will be a better place without a person like him. I'm sure he really did some cruel and unusal things to his vicitms like shooting one 5 times in the head. His attorney is pathetic for trying to save him with those frivolous appeals that ends up causing more cruel and unusal suffering to Gerri Moss. Goodbye Brandon you P.O.S.! I hope Daniel Lucus meets up with you soon!

  2. And one other thing, why couldn't you post a crime scene photo of each victim along with the photo of him with his superfical neck injury?

  3. He want meet his maker tonight God has granted him a stay in his execution til MON at 4.00 Thankyou God for answering prayers

  4. they are human right's GUMP are not unless your not a human !He got a stay and that's what counts thank you in Gods eye's with all the stays going in place maybe it's not his time to Die!

  5. Mr. "I have a right to be heard", I'm glad God answered your prayers today. I'm fine with waiting until Monday to hear the news of this terrible person taking a dirt nap. I will be able to enjoy Monday night football alittle more and I will celebrate his death. But I have to ask you if a few things. First, Would you still feel the same way if you arrived home from work and found your spouse and two children dead? I don't think so no matter what you say. I think that would be a mind altering expirence that would change how you feel about this subject. Second, Would you feel the same way if you had a neighbor like Ted Bundy, Eric Nenno or Carlton Gary, who likes to sexually assault and kill elderly women? I'm sure everyone's Grandmother would feel safe around Mr. Gary. Do some research on those people and you tell me. The only point here is that Brandon Rhodes is a COLD BLOODED CHILD KILLER so keep that in mind the next time you pray. Also remember that the Georgia Supreme Court has given him 6 extra days to live on this earth when he didn't given Mr. Moss or those children 6 seconds to appeal their deaths. I'm a firm believer that God will answer my prayers as well as Gerri Moss' prayers on Monday @ 4:00 p.m. Teresa Lewis is more of a man than Mr. Rhodes, she apologized to her step-daughter and took the lethal dose like a man. I bet Mr. Rhodes doesn't even own up to his evil deeds that's going to plant him like a seed in the ground. Mr. Rhodes if you have anything left in your mind or body that is descent, please apologize to Ms. Moss for ruining her family and her life.

  6. Sir, I did the research for you for Eric Nenno. I'm sure you are familiar with the other two.

Eric Charles Nenno, 47, was executed by lethal injection on 28 October 2008 in Huntsville, Texas for the rape and murder of a 7-year-old girl.

On 23 March 1995, Buddy Benton was celebrating his birthday at a friend's house in Hockley. Benton, a guitarist, was playing with his band, while his daughter, Nicole, played in the front yard. Nenno, then 33, lived two houses away. He saw Nicole and approached her. Nenno told the girl he was going back to his house to get a guitar to play with the band, and asked her to go with him. She did. Once they were inside Nenno's home, he attempted to rape her. When Nicole cried and resisted, he strangled her to death. He then raped her. He hid her nude body in his attic and stuffed her clothing in a filing cabinet. He continued to have sex with Nicole's body repeatedly over the next two days.

Now doyou think you could tell your daughter that he didn't deserve to die?

  8. As a daughter of someone who was murdered, I say kill the piece of crap. The victims wife walked into her home after work and found her husband and two children brutally murdered. He made the father watch as he killed the children one by one as they came home from school. Why should he or his cohort live? He didn't allow his victims to live. Instead he left a trail of grief and suffering behind him. I am from the area where he murdered his victims. He went to school with the girl he killed. She dissed him, so he robbed their home and waited for everyone to come home to kill them. Why should I keep paying to feed this dirtbag? Where were the human rights for the victims? Get over yourself! Let him die!

  9. And one other thing, why couldn’t you post a crime scene photo of each victim along with the photo of him with his superfical neck injury?

  10. GaGirl you need to get the facts straight before you come in and voice your word the girl you saying Brandon knows wasn't Brandon's girlfriend it was Dainel's Lucus's if you lived here and read the newspapers you would know and as far as what the paper stated it stated that the kids life's was takeing before the father ever enter the home and then the father lost his life as he walk into the home the kids came in the home 1 after another by there selfs the father came in later after they came home and that is what read in the paper and if i am wrong then the papers printed the story wrong! And i am sorry but killing him wouldn't make a right I feel taking another person in this sad sad story will not do anyone nay Justice in this case.

  13. There is so much pain here; but killing this man will not bring anyone back for you. If you agree that this man should be killed , you are involved in murder. Who says that because one human being has killed , which is an absolute horror, that you can turn around and murder him. What does that make you??
a murderer too. think about it. This man has a horrific history , right from his birth- are you going to judge? Or can you let God do that, as HE has asked us to.

  15. I pray that you who judge can learn to forgive , as Jesus did , and as the Dalai Lama teaches us all. To put this man to death will not help anything. You who hate him , and yes, his crime was a horror, will only suffer yourselves from your hatred. You will gain Nothing! from his death.

  17. Cathy,
Have you ever been to a crime scene and have witnessed a child being killed? I really doubt that you have. I've been to a few and I have even had to take someone's life to save another persons life. Taking a person's life in the right circumstances is okay and my pastor agreed with it as well as everyone else including a Superior Cout Judge, who is very religious. Brandon Rhodes is a fowl human being for killing those kids and I hope if he gets a stay, he can get out of prison to be your neighbor. Maye he will treat your daughter like Eric Nenno did in Texas. I hope not! You are as sick as his patheic lawyer and as sick as " I have a right to be heard". Y'all are the same people that want to call for help when things are going bad, but ya turn around and say the punishment shouldn't be as bad. Yes, we hear you but nothing is coming out of your mouths. You had a better chance in saving Tersea Lewis' life than you did with this P.O.S. He's a dead man walking so why don't you recognize the ultimate ending to this sick person. I can't wait to hear the news that he is dead. Who is playing Monday night football this week? I want to know what his final words are and I hope he apologizes to Ms. Moss for destroying her life before I watch the game and celebrate. Go ahead Ms. Cathy, watch the headlines as he's taking the dirt nap that the dirt bag deserves. Why aren't you showing sympathy for the husband and the two children? You are as pathetic as his lawyer, who keeps on filing appeals to save his life? It's a dead issue and I wish you and his lawyer would realize that so we, the tax payers, don't have to keep paying for his life. Bye Bye Brandon you P.O.S.!

  18. Once again Amnesty international is making a mockery of its claim to represent "human rights" by standing up to defend the worst of human rights abusers. Human rights abusers are not all third world dictators or rebel leaders who employ 12-year olds with Ak-47s.

Human rights abusers are also common criminals who's callous disregard for human life enables them to slaughter a father and his two children just to avoid going to prison for their other crimes. They deserve a swift and just execution after being tried, convicted, and sentenced by a jury of their peers. The family members of the victims of their crimes have been through enough pain and suffering already. They do not need further anguish from special interest groups seeking to get their family members' killers off the hook under their misguided and perverted notion of "human rights".

  24. "One is absolutely sickened, not by the crimes that the wicked have committed, but by the punishments that the good have inflicted.” – Oscar Wilde

Why don't you ask the family members of Rhode's victims what "sickens" them more? The cold blooded killing of a father and two children for the sake of covering up a crime, or the execution of the killer after he was given the benifit of a police investigation, a trial, a sentencing phase, and over a decade of appeals. None of those luxeries were granted to Bryan, Kristin, and Steven Moss, whose names AI did not even find worthy of mention in this blog.

  25. Brandon Rhode deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars. The U.S.must abolish capital punishment, as it abolished slavery and prohibited torture and cruel and unusual punishment. In this day and age, the death penalty in the US is an anachronism that places this nation alongside countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, Pakistan and Yemen, to mention just a few.

Whatever the crimes Brandon Rhode has committed, he's still a human being, as AI aptly puts it, and I agree that "what we as a society do to him speaks volumes about who we are and what our values are." It's not about what THEY did; it's about what WE do.

  35. I, too, am a family member of a murder victim. There were three men involved, and before the trials began, when asked by the media if we wanted the prosecution to seek the death penalty, the spokesperson for our family replied, without hesitation, "No." We all realized that taking another life would not bring her back and that being filled with hate and a need for revenge would only serve to disgrace the memory of our loved one and eat away at our own souls. Those individuals will have to live with what they have done for the rest of their lives. My family has chosen the path of forgiveness, and not one of us could tell you today the names of those involved in her murder. We choose, instead, to remember the kind, loving person that Donna was.

Murder is murder, whether committed by an individual or carried out by the state.

  42. "Murder is murder, whether committed by an individual or carried out by the state." written by Carolyn Bond. Thank you for your post. My heart goes out to you and your family. How terrible. And yet you have risen above the horror and managed to forgive. You have freed yourself from the awful hatred that can only damage us. Your and your family being able to forgive (that cannot be easy) puts you all in a higher state of consciousness in doing so. You all have broken the cycle of misery and hatred. God bless

  43. DPN said: "In this day and age, the death penalty in the US is an anachronism that places this nation alongside countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, Pakistan and Yemen, to mention just a few."

I noticed you conveniently left Japan (where capital punishment is legal) off your list of "a few". Why? Is it because it hurts your cause to acknowledge the death penalty isn't only practiced in nations with autocratic dictatorships?

DPN said: "Whatever the crimes Brandon Rhode has committed, he’s still a human being, as AI aptly puts it, and I agree that “what we as a society do to him speaks volumes about who we are and what our values are.” It’s not about what THEY did; it’s about what WE do."

No it is about what they did. That's why Rhodes is on death row. It's not for unpaid parking tickets or jaywalking. It's for the cold blooded killing of a father and two children just to cover up a crime.

Rhodes got the benifit of a police investigation, a trial, a sentencing phase, and over a decade of appeals. Thier victims did not. There simply is no equation between his crime and his punishment for it. His sentence is justified punishment under the law, not revenge.

  44. to CNS. Perhaps then, you would like the job. A state paycheck, and all you have to do is kill someone.

  45. CNS, I do not belong to Amnesty or any other organization, because I do not want my decisions clouded by loyalties to any group. I also am not a Christian, though I believe in the one teaching of Jesus, and that is unconditional love. The need for revenge does, in fact , lead us to exact "an eye for en eye." I believe those who commit crimes should be punished; in fact, I turned in a nephew who had committed a crime (no, not jaywalking or a parking ticket). I am very saddened by the fact that we live in a society today that teaches our children that violence is okay in certain instances and that some people should not be considered as human. May God have mercy on our souls as people and as a nation.

  46. CNS, and others, as a postscript, please Google Celia McWee. She happens to be a fantastic woman I had the privilege of meeting in her home almost three years ago. Celia has been on both sides of this issue. Her ex son-in-law murdered her daughter, and her son was executed by the state of South Carolina. Celia has found it in her heart to forgive both her daughter's husband and those people in South Carolina who murdered her son. She has continued to fight against the death penalty and to support other men on South Carolina's death row. If, after reading her story, you cannot realize why a life for a life is not the way, I just pity you.

  47. God please be with him in this time of need and all the people pulling for you keep strong and know god is right beside you helping you through this

  48. Carolyn Bond, thank you for your response. I simply do not believe the death penalty is "revenge" or "an eye for an eye". If it was about revenge, we would never have given Rhode a trial or over ten years of appeals. We would simply have locked him in a house and shot him in the face, just like what he did to his victims. That would have been "an eye for an eye". Instead, Rhodes got the advantage of having a fair trial where he was able to present his case in court, along with many, many years of appeals afterwords. That makes his sentence justified punishment, not revenge.

To equate a death sentence through the legal system, with all the safeguards and opportunities given to the defendent in the process, with the murder that put the killer on death row in the first place is totally illogical. Thus it is absurd to claim the people who carried out the execution in South Carolina are no different then the killer who had only himself to blame for being on the receiving end fo it.

Finally your statement that "I am very saddened by the fact that we live in a society today that teaches our children that violence is okay in certain instances and that some people should not be considered as human" is a total non-issue. No one is claiming that Rhode is not human, certainly not me. He is a human being who committed a terrible crime and is being held accountable for it, nothing more.

And yes, there are certain cases where violence is justified, such as in the case of self defense, or do you equate that with murder too?

  49. Well what I do know he was 18 year's old at the time this took place and he has spent much of his adult in prison with very little freedom and I do know that we all make mistake's in life but he for some reason got on the wrong track and what i do know he dosen't need his life took for 1 bad choice he made in his life takeing another life will not do anyone any justice and will be more sadness in this case for his family and I dont want never think takeing another life by votes in court are jury's in court is right it's not up to any human to vote to take a life He is Human and God created him as much as anyone ele's in the world and i wouldnt think god would want anyone to stand up and vote for another human to be put to dead if God had his choice in the way life was suppose to be like the world would have never had any sin but we are born into sin and will die with sin and ask god to forgive us for our sins and mean it from the heart and we shall be saved from all sin we comment.

  50. We all on here need to start praying for Gump because the way the anger is in the messages they are leaveing they will be on the same road bandon went on if the anger of his post dont calm down and GOD'S WATCHING YOU JUST REMEMBER!You may need to pray for your sins tonight before you lay your head down because you sound like you got alot of anger built up in your HEART .God please keep him safe from anger and keep brandon in peace with himself to and watch over both of them thankyou God AMEN!

  51. CNS, We are talking about a system that metes out revenge in a "civilized" manner. The "eye for an eye" concept in our legal system does not mean that we do the exact same thing to the person who committed the crime that he did to someone else. We strap someone to a gurney and do it the "humane" way, by injecting him first with a drug which paralyzes and masks the agonizing pain from those watching (unless it is botched). We are also talking about a system that does not actually provide those "safeguards" which you claim exist, hence the number of innocent people exonerated and the number of innocent people executed because the system which you seem to believe in so strongly failed them, and they were either killed by the state or spent most of their lives behind bars for crimes they did not commit.

I am sorry you cannot see that when we decide a person is not fit to live, we
    negate his or her humanity.

By the way, my faith and my family have taught me that taking a life is never the answer. Although, as I said earlier, I am not a Christian, I think Jesus was pretty clear on that.

  52. Live By Faith of God, Not under Law……
by RON SMITH on SEPTEMBER 12, 2010
Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
    Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

For we live by faith of God not of Man laws and we can’t live by the law, For we can’t keep it. by faith we are saved though the blood of Jesus Christ, by staying in faith in close relationship in him that we not close inside relationship of being in the world.. Though God we not justified in his way of sight… We shall not be justified in sin we not be under the law, so that we live by faith in God’s Eyes not of men. We need to have a closer relationship in God. We not under the law of God, for if we was we couldn’t keep the ten commandments, and we are saved by grace of God were are sinners that are saved… we will not be cut off from the glory of salvation of Jesus Christ…

  53. Carolyn Bond, I would say the number of people exonerated from death row is proof that there are safeguards that work. The people who are taken off death row get off because we give them appeal after appeal after appeal to ensure we get it right. Rhode has had 13 years now to convince the courts, the parole board, and the governor of his state that he did not deserve the sentence given to him by a jury of his peers. In doing so, he spent more time alive on death row then two of his victims spent in the world. That he has failed to get his sentence reduced is not evidence of a broken system, it's evidence he has no case.

You say "when we decide a person is not fit to live, we negate his or her humanity," but how is that any different then deciding if they are fit to be free or spend the rest of their lives in prison? When somone commits a terrible crime, it is up to us to decide their punishment. Deciding whether or not to give a hardened killer life in prison or the death penalty has no bearing on their humanity. They are just as human on death row as they are spending a life sentnece in prison.

  54. CNS, It is very clear that I will never convince you that to take a life under any circumstances is wrong, and you certainly will never convince me that it is okay to take a life under certain circumstances. I will not take anymore time or anymore space on this site. I will just close this discussion by saying that I will pray for you and hope you will do the same for me. I leave you in peace and love.

  55. “Murder is murder, whether committed by an individual or carried out by the state.” written by Carolyn Bond. God bless

  56. DPN said: “In this day and age, the death penalty in the US is an anachronism that places this nation alongside countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, Pakistan and Yemen, to mention just a few.”

I noticed you conveniently left Japan (where capital punishment is legal) off your list of “a few”. Why? Is it because it hurts your cause to acknowledge the death penalty isn’t only practiced in nations with autocratic dictatorships?

DPN said: “Whatever the crimes Brandon Rhode has committed, he’s still a human being, as AI aptly puts it, and I agree that “what we as a society do to him speaks volumes about who we are and what our values are.” It’s not about what THEY did; it’s about what WE do.”

No it is about what they did. That’s why Rhodes is on death row. It’s not for unpaid parking tickets or jaywalking. It’s for the cold blooded killing of a father and two children just to cover up a crime.

Rhodes got the benifit of a police investigation, a trial, a sentencing phase, and over a decade of appeals. Thier victims did not. There simply is no equation between his crime and his punishment for it. His sentence is justified punishment under the law, not revenge.

  57. to CNS. Perhaps then, you would like the job. A state paycheck, and all you have to do is kill someone.

  58. CNS, I do not belong to Amnesty or any other organization, because I do not want my decisions clouded by loyalties to any group. I also am not a Christian, though I believe in the one teaching of Jesus, and that is unconditional love. The need for revenge does, in fact , lead us to exact “an eye for en eye.” I believe those who commit crimes should be punished; in fact, I turned in a nephew who had committed a crime (no, not jaywalking or a parking ticket). I am very saddened by the fact that we live in a society today that teaches our children that violence is okay in certain instances and that some people should not be considered as human. May God have mercy on our souls as people and as a nation.

  59. Celia has found it in her heart to forgive both her daughter’s husband and those people in South Carolina who murdered her son. She has continued to fight against the death penalty and to support other men on South Carolina’s death row. If, after reading her story, you cannot realize why a life for a life is not the way, I just pity you.

  60. Carolyn Bond, thank you for your response. I simply do not believe the death penalty is “revenge” or “an eye for an eye”. If it was about revenge, we would never have given Rhode a trial or over ten years of appeals. We would simply have locked him in a house and shot him in the face, just like what he did to his victims. That would have been “an eye for an eye”.

Finally your statement that “I am very saddened by the fact that we live in a society today that teaches our children that violence is okay in certain instances and that some people should not be considered as human” is a total non-issue. No one is claiming that Rhode is not human, certainly not me. He is a human being who committed a terrible crime and is being held accountable for it, nothing more.

And yes, there are certain cases where violence is justified, such as in the case of self defense, or do you equate that with murder too?

  61. From all that I have read Brandon Rhode and his accomplice Daniel Lucas were high on methamphetamines when they committed this horrible act of taking human life. They were stealing in order to keep supporting their habit. They made a choice to begin doing meth in the first place so this does not in anyway excuse this grisly murdering of children. Since human beings have been on this earth there has been stealing and killing but in recent times such drugs as meth, heroin, crack cocaine and the legal drug alcohol have been all been there when murder and other crimes were committed. The state of Georgia is not seeking revenge on Brandon Rhode; it is just meting out punishment and taking his life just happens to be his punishment. The problem with the death penalty is that it takes to long to be executed. Murderers, rapists and child molesters should have no rights to the appeal system. Once convicted beyond a shadow of a doubt, using the latest forensic technology if neccessary then they should be executed immediately. Contrary to what some think, this would be a huge deterrent.

  62. Well what I do know he was 18 year’s old at the time this took place and he has spent much of his adult in prison with very little freedom and I do know that we all make mistake’s in life but he for some reason got on the wrong track and what i do know he dosen’t need his life took for 1 bad choice he made in his life takeing another life will not do anyone any justice and will be more sadness in this case for his family and I dont want never think takeing another life by votes in court are jury’s in court is right it’s not up to any human to vote to take a life He is Human and God created him as much as anyone ele’s in the world and i wouldnt think god would want anyone to stand up and vote for another human to be put to dead if God had his choice in the way life was suppose to be like the world would have never had any sin but we are born into sin and will die with sin and ask god to forgive us for our sins and mean it from the heart and we shall be saved from all sin we comment.

  63. We all on here need to start praying for Gump because the way the anger is in the messages they are leaveing they will be on the same road bandon went on if the anger of his post dont calm down and GOD’S WATCHING YOU JUST REMEMBER!You may need to pray for your sins tonight before you lay your head down because you sound like you got alot of anger built up in your HEART .God please keep him safe from anger and keep brandon in peace with himself to and watch over both of them thankyou God AMEN!

  64. CNS, We are talking about a system that metes out revenge in a “civilized” manner. The “eye for an eye” concept in our legal system does not mean that we do the exact same thing to the person who committed the crime that he did to someone else. We strap someone to a gurney and do it the “humane” way, by injecting him first with a drug which paralyzes and masks the agonizing pain from those watching (unless it is botched). We are also talking about a system that does not actually provide those “safeguards” which you claim exist, hence the number of innocent people exonerated and the number of innocent people executed because the system which you seem to believe in so strongly failed them, and they were either killed by the state or spent most of their lives behind bars for crimes they did not commit.

I am sorry you cannot see that when we decide a person is not fit to live, we
    negate his or her humanity.

By the way, my faith and my family have taught me that taking a life is never the answer. Although, as I said earlier, I am not a Christian, I think Jesus was pretty clear on that.

well said! Carolyn. You have suffered more than we in this post can even imagine, and yet, you have come out of this horror that your family has endured, with a strength and love of humanity that i don't know that i could match, had it been me and my family going through this. I am so impressed by you and your forgiveness.

  69. Carolyn, you have touched me by your posts here so much. Responding to those in this thread , such as 'Gump' has been painful for me,having to read of his anger and hatred ( i almost left this discussion because of him and the others on here who want this man killed) but like you, I know in my heart that to murder someone (the state) who has killed another human being solves nothing, but only brings more pain. I applaud you

  70. I have spent a lot of time reading all of the post on this site and I can understand both sides of this argument to some extent. The fact is that this should not be about vengeance or hatred towards the guilty person although I am sure it is next to impossible for the victims family members not to feel that way. Even outsiders feel that way. If we as a civilized society with values don't have punishments that fit the crime, then what does that say about us? I have heard from someone that has been in prison and they said it wasn't all that bad except for the fact that you are closed off from your family and society. I mean they have a free roof over their head, they watch tv, read books, exercise, take classes, eat three meals a day all on the tax payer money. If they behave it really isn't as terrible a place as you might think. I believe that the punishment should fit the crime and in this case I believe that the death penalty is justified. Executing the two men that committed the horrific murder of a father and his two children is not murder, it is JUSTICE!!! I am a Christian and yes I believe that anyone can be forgiven for any sin, including murder but that doesn't mean that they don't have to face the death penalty for their terrible crimes in this life. There are some murder cases that I don't think should get the death penalty but this one isn't one of them.

  77. I want to address everyone who thinks I'm filled with anger and hatered towards Mr. Rhodes. I'm not angry with him because I don't even know him and he has never done anything to me, my family or my friends. And I hope he has made peace with God and himself. But that doesn't mean that I think he should avoid the death penalty, his crimes were very VIOLENT and EVIL and he deserves to take a dirt nap. What I dislike is when his attorney appeals and uses terms such as "cruel and unusual punishment", "He was subject to harsh and inhumane treatment after his suicide attempt" or like some one said on here, "He was 18 years old and he made 1 mistake." Where do you people come up with this crap? "Cruel and unusual punishment" is being shot in the face five times or arriving home to find your children dead only to be executed like them. "Harsh and inhumane '? Wow! He was strapped to a chair so that he could not harm himself. People are strapped into chairs each and everyday at jails when they become a threat to themselves or another person. And he did not make one mistake, he made several mistakes. The first one was doing Meth, the second one was breaking into the home and stealing things, the third one was going back to the home to steal more items, the fourth, fifth and sixth mistakes were KILLING two kids and a father in an inhumane way. And Ms. Cathy, I could definately pull the switch without any hesitation or remorse for Rhodes. Thank you all and have a great day! Bye Bye Brandon, your hours are numbered.

  78. "Cruel and unusual, anything, is what my 11 year old son walked in his home to have done to him. And on top of that, my daughter, who knows what she witnessed. Who knows what she heard, we haven't gotten all the facts yet. And then my husband coming home to that situation that's cruel and unusual," said a distraught Geri Moss in 2000.

This is what needs to be posted on here!

  79. Gump: "And Ms. Cathy, I could definately pull the switch without any hesitation or remorse "

I think this is precisely what most of you God-fearing, law-abiding, self-righteous pro-death penalty people are really after deep down: pulling the switch.

That would make your day, wouldn't it?…

  80. Cathy said: "CNS, as to your post to Carolyn “when someone commits a terrible crime it is up to us to decide their punishment” I guess you also do not believe in Jesus’ teachings or the Bible. Or the ten commandments. Thou shall NOT kill. Thou shall not judge"

I don't believe they were ment to be taken literally with no exceptions. After all, "thou shall not judge" doesn't stop us from putting killers like Rhode in prison for life, does it? Why can't we take it one step further when we think it is warrented?

And do you think "thou shall not kill" prevents people from killing in self defense when they need to in order to save their own lives?

  81. COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. Ted Strickland on Monday postponed the execution of a convicted killer who managed to take an overdose of pills in his death row cell and was found unconscious just hours before he was to be driven to his execution.

A week later: Ohio killer Lawrence Reynolds was pronounced dead at 10:27 AM 03-16-2010 in the execution chamber of the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.

Reynolds was convicted of murdering (by strangling and beating with a tent pole), robbing and attempting to rape 67 year old Loretta Foster in 1994 for drinking money.

It's the same scenario and it will be the same ending. And D.P.N, it would make my day when I know his sentence has been carried out.

  82. There are alot of should be's,could be's and would be's on here. I am a Christian and was brought up knowing right from wrong. My family taught me that. I also was brought up to know that you have to answer to the decisions that you make. I am not filled with hatred toward this man or what he has done although these murders hit really close to home. I believe that God takes care of what needs to be done. Do I agree that Mr. Rhodes needs to have the ultimate punishment? YES! I also agree that this would be an easy way out for him. I hate the fact that he will not have to live 20 more years with the guilt (if he really has any) of what he has done. I wish that he could be sat in a jail cell with no windows and vivid grotesque pictures of what he has done to these people. And have to look at these and hear sounds of people pleading and begging for their lives and to smell a smell of pugent rotting flesh 24 hours a day! All of this with no other human communications until it makes him so crazy that he wish he were dead! That is what I wish for this man. Maybe that wouldn't be as CRUEL AND UNUSUAL as just plain out killing him! Or maybe it would!

  83. All about justice, one way or another, I agree with you on that. But you know that's not the way it is in prison these days so I hope he gets the injection at 7 p.m. tonight.

  84. I also wonder to myself…..why is staying his execution time after time not considered Cruel and Unusual? How many days does he have to wonder "Is today the day that I will die?"

  85. Oh and they still got the high courts to put a stay on it also we dont stop there we can go all the way up the ladder thank's DONT TAKE HIS LIFE!

  86. If you remember, they Federal Courts denied it last week so why would they change their minds this week. Like I said long ago, it's a dead issue and he's a dead man walking. Who's playing Monday night football?

  87. "Almost all my [Death Penalty] clients should have been taken out of their homes when they were children. They weren't. Nobody had any interest in them until, as a result of nobody's interest in them, they became menaces, at which point society did become interested, if only to kill them." – David R. Dow, Texas Public Defender Service attorney, in Autopsy of an Execution.

Brandon Rhode, who is about to be put death like a dog by the state of Georgia, was an alcoholic at age… 11.

    Who cared then?

His execution tonight has cost Georgia's taxpayers over a million of dollars (see Death Penalty Information Center website for accurate figures and breakdown of costs).

A hundredth of that sum would have saved four lives, not to mention the pain and sorrow of several devastated families.

  88. Eye for an eye this man needs to die yea its murder and won't bring back the father and 2 kids but it'll serve him rite I think they should it just like he done them injection is to simple……..

  89. If a mosquito is buzzing around, I kill it! Rhodes is a mosquito! He gave up his right to live in our society when he took three lives. Killing the father is bad enough but when a "person" takes the life of, not one but two, innocent children, he gave up his right to live. I am appalled that his attorney feels that the stress from the up and coming execution is cruel and unusual. I have no problem with the death penalty other than it takes too long to carry out. If you want to consider me a murderer as well, I would be proud to proclaim it across the world! That being said, the other unfortunate part of any execution is the family of the criminal. Not only do they have to live with the horrible fact that their loved one committed a horrible crime, now they have to wait for the second their loved one dies. My heart and prayers do go out to them. I as a mother could not take knowing that my son was going to be executed at a very specific day and time. Brandon is a coward for doing this to his family. He should suck it up like the man he was at the time he committed these crimes and quit putting his family through this hell. How tormenting it must be to know your child is afraid. Please don't get me wrong, I want him to feel the fear that those babies and their father felt, he just doesn't need to drag his family down with him. I know there are people who believe that the family is to blame for raising him a certain way or not stopping him. Well, that isn't always the case. There are those that are born bad and I believe he was one of them. I hope the victims family can finally put all this to rest after tonight. At least there will be no more court hearings and they can now mourn their loved ones. God bless ALL the victims and I pray for peace to all.

  90. I want to address everyone who thinks I’m filled with anger and hatered towards Mr. Rhodes. 93. I believe that what will happen will be what is meant to be. It does'nt matter if we think it right or wrong. Its what the laws dictate. People commit murders knowing there is a chance, if caught, they can face the death penalty. If they disregard the cosequences and a commit the crime, it is on them. Life is full of choices regardless of upbringing or circumstances. Good or bad you have to live with those choices and their consequences.

  94. If he killed once he may kill again. What is there to keep him from killing a guard, or another inmate or for that matter a civilian?

Remember not long ago killers excaped from a Texas prison and killed 6 more innocent people before they were caught.

One thing is for sure…After tonight Rhodes will never kill again.

  95. Cathy said: “CNS, as to your post to Carolyn “when someone commits a terrible crime it is up to us to decide their punishment” I guess you also do not believe in Jesus’ teachings or the Bible. Or the ten commandments. Thou shall NOT kill. Thou shall not judge”

  96. All Brandon could hear in the last few minutes was the ticking of the clock, but as of 21 minutes ago Hell will have vengence on him. I can almost smell the flesh burning.

  97. Brandon Rhode killed, without cause or mercy. He should not have a problem with having his own life taken. At least he knows it's coming and it won't be violent.

  98. I have recieved some false information. I apoligize and will update the very minute he takes his last breath.

  99. As of 7:30, he had not been executed, there is some kind of delay, according to 13WMAZ's Twitter.

  100. Brandon Rhode gave up his status as a human being when he shot an 11 year old boy point blank in the face 5 times. Georgia: Do away with this vermin tonight. Inject some justice!

  101. Carolyn Bond: I have a great idea! Why don't you take Brandon Rhode into your home tonight. Pray for him, re-educate him, love him and have him cut your throat with his razor!

  102. Grim Reaper, I know he lost all of that when he did his evil acts. I'm glad you agree with me and I'm sure you could inject that fowl human being like I could. I'm waiting to hear what his final words were. I hope he has some, he declinde a special meal. I hope I'm not spelling words wrong because I'm celebrating his death and Monday night football. I hope the Bears beat the Packers.

It’s the same scenario and it will be the same ending. And D.P.N, it would make my day when I know his sentence has been carried out.

  104. There are alot of should be’s,could be’s and would be’s on here. Maybe that wouldn’t be as CRUEL AND UNUSUAL as just plain out killing him! Or maybe it would!

  105. I'm checking the net about every five minutes to see if they post something. I will keep you updated. I hope he is!!!!!

  106. Hello Gump-

I like your style. I hope he had something for his last meal. Because it will end up in the seat of his pants when they "stick it to him." Then he can have the devil spoon feed it to him for eternity! GO BEARS!

  107. All about justice, one way or another, I agree with you on that. But you know that’s not the way it is in prison these days so I hope he gets the injection at 7 p.m. tonight.

  108. I also wonder to myself…..why is staying his execution time after time not considered Cruel and Unusual? How many days does he have to wonder “Is today the day that I will die?”

  109. AS of 8.30pm they still havent execution him thankyou god! I got a good friend and they getting the news to me fast

  110. Hello Grim Reaper-

I like your style too. I think he ate the daily meal that all of the other inmates ate today. It seems like pinto beans were on the menu. Go Bears and Go Braves!

  111. And he isn't giving any last staments so dont hold your breath on that you want here from him on that and as of RIGHT THIS MINUTE HE IS STILL ALIVE !THANKYOU …………GOD!

  112. Hi there god will forgive:

Maybe they are letting the scumbag sweat it out a little longer. When he pisses his pants it will make Brandon a little softer for the worms to eat! So long a$$hole, enjoy your dirt nap.

  113. He will be gone soon weather it's today, tomorrow, next week or a month from now! He's a dead man walking either way the tides turn. I kinda hope he gets a delay so he can go through the feelings of near death and the fear that comes with it. Maybe he should go through it 3 times like all of his vicitms did. Grim Reaper, the Bears miss a field goal, Damn!

  114. Oh and they still got the high courts to put a stay on it also we dont stop there we can go all the way up the ladder thank’s DONT TAKE HIS LIFE!

  115. Gump-

I'd rather see the scumbag get his anti-crime vaccine now. But it wouldn't hurt to let him off with a delay or two just to see the pussy tremble. Damn, Packers TD!

  116. A Delay can also turn his sentence over to life in prison with no parole also see how much ya know even though jones county ordered it doesn't mean a higher court cant stop the execution if god see's its not his time he will not go god bless have a greatnight !

  117. A Delay can also turn his sentence over to life in prison with no parole also see how much ya know even though jones county ordered it doesn’t mean a higher court cant stop the execution if god see’s its not his time he will not go god bless have a greatnight !

Sorry but it didn't cause a sentence to be overturned. How about waiting until next week when you talk about the guy in Cali that is suppose to take the dirt nap. He's got a better chance that the Judge will not lift the execution ban. Good night!

  118. As of about 9 p.m., a state Department of Corrections spokeswoman says the execution process has not started yet for convicted triple murderer Brandon Joseph Rhode.

Peggy Chapman says, "It seems to have been delayed. [The execution] has not started."

  119. Cutler hit Hester with a pass earlier but he caught it out of bounds. They missed teh dang field goal after that. It's 7 to 0 Packers. Go Bears and Braves! Go away Mr. Rhodes!

  120. If you remember, they Federal Courts denied it last week so why would they change their minds this week. Like I said long ago, it’s a dead issue and he’s a dead man walking. Who’s playing Monday night football?

  121. Soon it will be one down (Rhode)

And one to go (Lucas) the second cowardly murderer.

What kind of an animal kills a little boy and a teen age girl.

Soon we will know for sure Rhode will never kill again.

And soon (hopefully) we will know Lucas will never kill again.

Justice is being served in a very humane way, much more humane than the victims.

Still waiting for posting of victims pictures as suggested very appropriately by gump. (See top)

Brandon Rhode may God rest your soul and may you never kill again.

  122. Death Penalty News said: "“Almost all my [Death Penalty] clients should have been taken out of their homes when they were children. They weren’t. Nobody had any interest in them until, as a result of nobody’s interest in them, they became menaces, at which point society did become interested, if only to kill them.” – David R. Dow, Texas Public Defender Service attorney, in Autopsy of an Execution.

Brandon Rhode, who is about to be put death like a dog by the state of Georgia, was an alcoholic at age… 11.

    Who cared then?"

Aww your breaking my heart. He's just a sad misunderstood hardened murderer who took three innocent lives to cover up a crime. How silly of anyone to hold him accountable. Let's get him out of prison and throw him a freaking pity party. We'll have it at the same place where his victims are burried.

Serouisly, that's pathetic. If we ever needed proof of the death penalty opponents desperation to save murderers, here it is. Everyone in prison has a sad story to tell. Get over it. The fact is the vast majority of abused children don't go on to commit first any first degree murders, let alone three. Rhode has had plenty of chances to convince us he doesn't deserve his sentence over the last 13 years, and its not hard to see why he failed. Not all of us are so easily manipulated by tearful stories of a difficult upbringing.

  123. “Almost all my [Death Penalty] clients should have been taken out of their homes when they were children. They weren’t. Nobody had any interest in them until, as a result of nobody’s interest in them, they became menaces, at which point society did become interested, if only to kill them.” – David R. Brandon Rhode, who is about to be put death like a dog by the state of Georgia, was an alcoholic at age… 11.

    Who cared then?

His execution tonight has cost Georgia’s taxpayers over a million of dollars (see Death Penalty Information Center website for accurate figures and breakdown of costs).

A hundredth of that sum would have saved four lives, not to mention the pain and sorrow of several devastated families.

  124. Eye for an eye this man needs to die yea its murder and won’t bring back the father and 2 kids but it’ll serve him rite I think they should it just like he done them injection is to simple……..

  125. If a mosquito is buzzing around, I kill it! Rhodes is a mosquito! He gave up his right to live in our society when he took three lives. Killing the father is bad enough but when a “person” takes the life of, not one but two, innocent children, he gave up his right to live. Please don’t get me wrong, I want him to feel the fear that those babies and their father felt, he just doesn’t need to drag his family down with him. I know there are people who believe that the family is to blame for raising him a certain way or not stopping him. Well, that isn’t always the case. There are those that are born bad and I believe he was one of them. I hope the victims family can finally put all this to rest after tonight. At least there will be no more court hearings and they can now mourn their loved ones. God bless ALL the victims and I pray for peace to all.

  126. Brandon Joseph Rhode, 31, was put to death by lethal injection at the state prison in Jackson. He was pronounced dead at 10:16 p.m. by authorities. Rhode declined to speak any last words or have a final prayer.

    He WAS such a COWARD!

The inmate's supporters filed a separate motion urging the execution be delayed for three weeks so officials could determine how Rhode got the razor blades.
You all are sick and pathetic!

A federal judge rejected the appeal, but ordered state prisons officials to take more security precautions to make sure he did not harm himself.
Rhode and Lucas were ransacking the Moss' home in search of valuables in April 1998 when Bryan Moss saw them through a front window, and entered through a back door armed with a baseball bat, prosecutors said. They said the two then wrestled Bryan to a chair and Lucas shot him in the shoulder.

When the intruders heard Kristin approaching the house, Rhode forced her to a chair and shot her twice with a pistol, according to court records. Rhode ambushed Steven Moss when he arrived home, shooting him with the same pistol. Lucas later shot each of the victims again to make sure they were dead, according to the records.
At the February 2000 trial, Rhode's roommate Chad Jackson said the two men told him the next day that they had both shot the victims. And Danny Ray Bell, a friend of Rhode's, told police that Rhode told him he had “messed up big time'' and shot a girl and a man and needed to quickly get rid of some weapons.

Nice job for the State of Georgia!

  127. I believe that what will happen will be what is meant to be. It does’nt matter if we think it right or wrong.

  128. His execution fills my heart with joy. The deterrence created by this justice will save the lives of many women and children. We need many more. Remember that he volunteered for this by committing his terrible crimes for which the consequence must be irrevocable. Let's see if we can speed up the process. Lives are at stake. Bob.

  130. so glad this piece of trash is over and done put down like a rabid dog that he was.He got what he deserved and good ridance. His cohort hopefully will suffer the same fate real soon too.You reap what u sow and they dont deserve to live another single day.death row should be cleaned out by having fry day every friday of the month.Perhaps espn should sell pay per view with the money going to the victims family.

  131. All Brandon could hear in the last few minutes was the ticking of the clock, but as of 21 minutes ago Hell will have vengence on him. I can almost smell the flesh burning.

Soon after his release my new marriage broke up (I was a total basket case and should have never married) Approx. 4 yrs after he was released he was shot and killed during another home invasion- It was the first time in more than 6 yrs, I slept through an entire night, After that night I began to heal.I can actually say it was one of the happiest days of my life. This is all a difficult thing from either side of the fence you are on but this just feels right from a human standpoint to me and everyone in my circle of many many friends and family that i have discussed in detail this subject with for weeks now. Not a single one has when it got down to it said this thing should live on the planet with us one more day and thats the voice of hundreds. Thats 100% death penalty for this thing called Brandon Rhodes. My wife went to school in jones county and knew the victims and the total waste of humans that did the crime and she as well as the rest of the county were changed forever by this.

I will never donate one minute to an organization that goes to such lengths for a multi-child murdering evil "man" like Rhodes and so many others on death row. Drop that and your terrorist sympathizing campaigns and I'd support the other causes.

    It is a shame.

Adious Mr. Rhodes. I tip my hat to the great State of Georgia.
