Geoffrey Mock, Egypt Country Specialist for Amnesty International USA, will be on hand to provide answers on the escalating situation that has brought the nation to a standstill. For over 17 years Geoffrey has worked with Amnesty to support human rights defenders, end unfair trials and torture in Egypt and defend Egypt’s civil society against harassment and legal attacks.
Protests in Egypt continue to rage on, centering around Tahrir (“Liberation”) Square in Cairo. Thousands of Egyptians are demonstrating against widespread corruption, police brutality and poverty in their country. Countless protesters have been killed and scores have been injured in the demonstrations, and journalists working in the country have been detained and threatened by the police for their coverage of the historic events.

I'm not sympathetic to Mubarak but the jubilance I'm hearing about political destabilisation in the Middle East is a worry. Do we really think the political collapse of Egypt is something to celebrate? Just fast forward a few years after the Shah of Iran was deposed; or Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany…I'd hardly say the Iranians' lot has improved and, at conservative estimates, 60 million people – many of them German – died in the war that resulted from the power vaccuum created in Germany post WW1…to say nothing of the current situation in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This is not the fall of the Berlin Wall: they had the democratic, economic powerhouse of Europe to step in and protect ordinary people. What have the Egyptians got?

May Allah (God) protect the Egyptian people and make them victorious. Down with Mubarak and his regime TODAY inshAllah (God willing). Mubarak needs to be charged with war crimes on his own people.

All I know is they're sending Marines over there to deal with this stupid ordeal. Except they aren't giving us any room to make changes, we are there acting like mall cops. Our government doesn't want to change the current system, because that would require us to get involved yet again, in an extensive rebulding of a middle east nation. And as far as the Muslim Brotherhood, if we get the go ahead, we can and will kill them all. Total war is the only proven tactical strategy against insurgency, it's not going to bring stability to the area for a while, but it is what's necessary. I'll go, but I wanna shoot some bodies, as soon as we decide that we are going to stop playing nice, this will be over in 2 weeks.
