Shin Dong-hyuk was born in a prison camp in North Korea. ‘Guilt-by-association’ (with his parents) meant that he faced a lifetime of imprisonment. He was tortured along with his father. He was forced to watch the execution of his mother and his brother. He witnessed the deaths of many children under the impossible demands of forced labor.
On May 4, Amnesty International released a new report on prison camps in North Korea, accompanied by satellite images that reveal the scope and location of these facilities. Most are located in vast tracts of wilderness: isolated, remote, harsh. And, over the last ten years, they have grown.
Amnesty estimates that these camps hold at least 200,000 men, women and children (estimates by other human rights groups are much higher.) Untold numbers of innocent North Koreans have passed through and passed away in the camps since they were created 60 years ago. Most have no idea why they were arrested; they are held without charge or trial, without access to an independent judiciary.
Offenses that might lead to arrest include: criticizing the ruling family; listening to unauthorized radio broadcasts; trying to leave the country; performing poorly on the job. Many are held simply because they are related to someone who was detained – husbands, wives, children, grandparents, siblings, cousins.
These citizens of North Korea endure inhuman conditions uncomfortably close to our common understanding of concentration camps. The head of Amnesty’s Asia division has said,
“Hundreds of thousands of people exist with virtually no rights, treated essentially as slaves, in some of the worst circumstances we’ve documented in the last 50 years.”
The majority of these prisoners, including children, are held in areas known as ‘Total Control Zones.’ They are destined to spend their entire lives in filthy, infested, grotesque conditions. Food is scarce and medical care minimal. Forty percent will die of malnutrition. No clothing or blankets are provided, even during the harsh and bitter winters.
Inmates, again including children, are used as slave labor. They spend most of their working hours suffering through arduous and pointless manual labor. Before and after such work, they attend ‘Ideology Struggle Sessions.’
In the camps, torture and execution are routine. Amnesty has found evidence of the use of torture cells, small cubes in which it is impossible to either stand or lie down. Researchers revealed the case of a boy of thirteen confined to a cube for eight months. Many camp infractions, including trying to escape, are punished by executions that inmates are forced to watch.
This is not just a cause for concern, this is an outrage. One way to make sure that nothing changes is for the rest of the world, the rest of us, to remain silent and disengaged. When Amnesty International was founded 50 years ago, one of its aims was to give a voice to the voiceless, to spur the free to act on behalf of the unfree.
If ever there were a time for us to raise our voices, it is now.

But we're concerned about your recommendation of abolishing the National Security Law, so we have a favor about reconsidering your people who sent a report abolishing National Security Law.
Korea is the last place where there is a possibility to break out the war between the Liberal Democrats and the Communists. We Korean people are still living in high-risk threat for communization of North Korea. You should remember two cases, 'Cheonan sinking' and 'Bombardment of Yeonpyeong'.
And North Korea is threating the peace of the world by the producing counterfeit dollar, manufacturing and exporting weapons of mass destruction and drugs, and North Korean people fear and starve to death, without minimum human rights guarantee.
National Security Law is the corner stone to keep the liberal democracy in the Republic of Korea, and it is the law to punish and to restrict people who are supporters and spies by North Korea trying to assassinate prominent people of the ROK, strike terror, and cause confusion in society to make the Republic of Korea a communist state.
Even though you recommend that the ROK government abrogate National Security Law, it is not the law to offend freedom and idea of individual in Korea. That is the law prescribed by the constitution of Korea in amendment 37 which precedes the basic human rights to ensure freedom of conscience, knowledge and publishing.
Although the Constitution of the ROK accepts the freedom of variety, ideology and conscience, it doesn't mean that tolerating negates and destroys the Liberal Democracy, National Polity of the ROK. So National Security Law was established.
No country tolerates to destroy national polity. Thus, Most people of the ROK who don't negate national polity and who don't want national polity to be destroyed are not violated their freedom.
At present, There are no conscientious prisoners who violate National Security Law in ROK. And the Amnesty defines a conscience;『who didn't use violence or advocate violence 』
Pro-North Korean socialists, proponents of the North Korea Govt in the ROK regard the prisoners who violate National Security Law as a prisoners of conscience. But they aren't real prisoners of conscience. They just the anti-national, communist prisoners.
On February 2011, "Socialist Labor Union(SLU)", was established in 2008, was given a decision that they included 'Association for rebellion' because of National Security Law.
The higher court of ROK revealed a sentence this year," Socialist Labor Union which is a group for a coup d´etat and it is an association which disregards for freedom of individual and democracy guaranteed by the constitution of ROK, and it pursues to turn over the present government of the ROK with violent revolution and to rise in arms for the purpose to build a new government after it establishes a party by socialists before.
But Catherine Baber, Asia-Pacific Deputy Programme Director of the Amnesty said, "How to threaten the national security by doing distribute printout?", as proponents of the North Korea government say. But we have our doubts about whether he discounts the truth or not.
In ROK, No one shall be punished blaming the President. Rather, Someone insists "Isn't so harsh that no one be judged who blame the President?" This means ROK guarantee the freedom of expression.
As Catherine Baber says, "The National Security Law is incorrectly used to block the citizen who exercise freedom of expression and assembly, and to prosecute the objectors of governmential policy. Thus, We're so concerned about what you say is same as proponents of North Korea Govt. say.
Furthermore, This is the arrogation which insisting reversal or censure the court decision, guilty.
And you'd better protect North Korean people's human rights rather than blaming national security law. It is more suitable for the improvement human rights all around the people of the world.

S Korea held a one sided investigation on this incident.
It refused to let N Korea participate, or even see the evidence, & blamed a Northern sub for torpedoing the Cheonan.
A Russian investigative team determined the sinking was likely caused by an accidental encounter with a sea mine.

2. "cyberblueeye" talks of the Yeongpeong island incident.
That island's in disputed waters.
US General Mark Clark unilaterally drew the border here.
Clark didn't draw a balanced, fair, perpendicular line.
He drew the line sharply up, giving S Korea islands & a major fishing area, willfully disadvantaging the North.
Of course N Korea didn't recognize this cockeyed border.
But every year S Korea & the US hold military drills on this contested border, the South with as many as 70, 000 troops, dozens of Southern & US warships & as many as 500 aircraft, to frighten & threaten N Korea.
In this particular incident the Southern forces on the island began firing live shells into the North's territorial waters.
The North's calls to stop the shelling went unheeded.
The North's ultimate countershelling is understandable, but it was overkill, & led to a senseless loss of lives on the island.
The North subsequently backed off from further conflict on this point.

The current S Korean President, Lee Myungbak is a troublemaker & a warmongerer.
He torpedoed former President Roh's Sunshine Policy.
He shut down all the communications channels with the North that had previously ended several potential conflicts.
He cancelled all the economic agreements between North & South.
He scrapped the railroad goods route.
He stopped the family reunions.
& he isolated himself as a result.

Those who devided the country in to 2 – north &south.
north korea will never listen to AI, hrw or any other organization. So, it is up to those who devided korea and put it to this mess to untangle the mess. A few will die, but, thereon, there will be long lasting peace. Ex. Sri Lanka – Retarded terrorists gone and the country is so so peaceful .
