Death threats for law school exam complaints

You wouldn’t expect to receive death threats for complaining that an exam was unfairly administered, would you?  You wouldn’t expect to be abducted for telling school officials that a test paper had been leaked, would you?  Yet that’s exactly what happened to D.M. Thushara Jayaratne, a final-year student at the Sri Lanka Law College.

Thushara publicly complained last November that President Rajapaksa’s son (also a student at the College) had received preferential treatment during final exams, including being seated in an air-conditioned room with access to a computer.  On December 3, Thushara alerted school officials that the test paper for the Commercial Law II exam had been leaked and was being discussed by students before the exam.  Instead of taking action, College officials rejected his complaint.  He approached the Bribery Commission, which also turned him away.  Then he filed a police report.  The police questioned College officials about his complaint.

Thushara later told the police that after filing his police report, he had received calls from the College Office Manager threatening him repeatedly with abduction or death if he didn’t withdraw his complaint.  He went into hiding and didn’t complete his last two exams.  The threats decreased after his case was featured in numerous press reports.

But on Mar. 4, he was abducted by two men and held for nearly 12 hours before being released.  During his abduction, he was questioned about complaints he had made against the College Registrar and his statements to international organizations.

Harassment, intimidation and attacks against human rights defenders and others who expose abuses in Sri Lanka are not uncommon these days.  Thushara’s case is one more example.

I’m very concerned for Thushara’s continued safety.  Please write to the Sri Lankan government and ask them to immediately provide him with effective protection and hold accountable those responsible for his abduction.  Thanks.

  1. Also, for all the Fluffers of the Peelam Die Ass Pora who would flood this post with their cries for Peelam – THE TOPIC IS ABOUT AN EXAM and not YOUR LOST CAUSE OR DEATH OF WALAPALLE PRIRIBAHARAN.

  3. RVW, This is just an example of the law and order situation in the failed state called Sri Lanka. You are obviously happy to expend your energy condemning AI for exposing the failed state. You deserve the government you defend. But I don't. That is why I am fighting; to get away from the failed state. Hence our fight to liberate our land occuppied buy the Sinhala failed state.

  5. With All due Respect !!

    Mr. Ratnam !!

The Post following yours by Saleem explains exactly what I meant on my post – a useless cut and paste article with no individual sense of input.

As I clearly mentioned, I do not justify what has happened (if it has happened, as I have a huge question about Jim MD's ability to gather information after the false cluster bomb article). It is a shame if such incident occurred.

However, what I say is that there are many important and "Dying" issues in the world as Atrocities carried out by USA on Libya which needs to be ighligted at this point of time. Jim MD's pure intention is to sling mud at the GOSL and would try to make a mountain out of a mole hill at any given opportunity.

I also hate the spineless double standards of AI and thoroughly believe that they are not fit to represent us (humans) due to the reasons of,

    1. Not taking action against USA for bombing and killing the innocent in Libya
    2. Not taking action against the terrorist Adela Balasingham who is in the UK
    3. Not taking action against Allied forces for killings in Afganisthan and Iraq

In addition, if they justify what's happening in Libya today, they should also pressure the GOUSA to help the rebelian forces of Syria to oust their president.

These spineless Swine do not have the balls to do so… AI is a very good example for a failed organization.

They do not have the right to talk on behalf of any human, though, some sore loosers like the peelamists think they do. They are a bunch of people living in a dranage pit trying to wash other peoples back sides (to put it in decent terms)
    Adios !

  7. exactly 14 years have elapsed since that event occurred , and the Tamil Tiger menace had been liquidated. Sonia the wife of Rajiv Gandhi however is now holding the tail of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s ‘Lion’ and running in circles around the tree. Sonia Gandhi and her Govt. have to hold the tail of the ‘lion’ and run round perhaps because of the assurance given by her Govt. to America including the western countries during the tail end of the SL war. The assurance being , no sooner the Tamil Tigers are devastated than a political solution shall be found for the Tamil people of SL. When America and the international community came forward to halt the war during the final phase, India gave this assurance to them. http://print.dailymirror.lk/opinion1/38967.html

Presumably , Sonia Gandhi’s Govt. would have told America and the International community during the final stages of the war to allow room to Mahinda Rajapaksa to finish off the Tamil Tigers, and that Sonia’s Govt. will ensure that a political solution is arrived at by the Rajapaksa Govt . for the Tamil people . But to her deep consternation , she is now in no position to hold the ‘Lion’s’ tail and run around the tree.

  11. This is another disturbing manifestation of the age-old problem of politicians' children being given preferential treatment, this time with the added nastyness of Police collusion in the persecution of a brave student who had the guts to complain. I commend Jim for keeping this issue at the forefront of media attention.

In Jim's complaint about "Harassment, intimidation and attacks against human rights defenders and others who expose abuses in Sri Lanka", he has omitted to mention two groups of human rights defenders who have been relentlessly harassed, intimidated and attacked for having had the courage to improve the overall human rights situation in Sri Lanka.

Who are these groups? The government and armed forces of Sri Lanka who, by destroying the LTTE, enabled a massive improvement in human rights in Sri Lanka.

Over 100,000 Lankans (Tri-Forces, Police, LTTE & civilians) died in 30 years of war against the LTTE. This equates to 3333 violent deaths/per year. Two years of no war means at least 6,666 Lankans are alive today, who would be dead had the war continued beyond May 2009.

The Western bloc however, continue to make life intolerable for large swathes of hot and dusty parts of the world, dispensing torture, abduction, death squads and human rights abuses with near-total impunity.

  15. So.

Lanka's human rights groups are its government & its army.

With such vast, armed & powerful human rights hydra …. rights octopi unequalled by any other country on earth ….. no wonder lanka doesn't have space left for impartial investigative human rights groups on its soil.

Mind, these two bodies of "human rights" monitoring Minotaurs function as judge, jury AND exectioner, & their record —- the destruction of 40, 000 lives in order to bring the blessings of peace, now counted magnanimously as 6,666 lives spared the horrors of death—- has set such a "high" bar in the annals of counterinsurgency even india doesn't want to be seen openly emulating it in its own wars against indigenous peoples.

But in order to extol its human rights record, this same ( lanka )government's corruption in a case involving Rajapakse's son ( a much smaller thing than its genocide ) is first piously condemned.

. Such impartiality in lanka's paradise regained !

    Such "balance" ….

& Mr McDonald is the unfortunate Brutus, & Amnesty the Cassius, Casca et al, in this script reversing Marc Antony.

He's first sternly praised … to show one's strictly high standards of justice & judgment … only in order to attempt to bury him at the end, together with the rest of Amnesty.

Botched theater as an attempt to rescript history's tragedy only ending as its farce.

I am waiting till you seriously implement this 'guideline rule'

I have never seen it happen when it comes to posts on Sri Lanka immaterial of several complains we have made against the Eelamists who copy and paste articles here. Would love to see AI do something right for once !!

  18. @a. savage:
I don't know many times this has to be repeated to people with learning difficulties. SL will not allow 'impartial' investigations into the Eelam Wars because the people who claim to be impartial are not.

You can keep repeating the '40,000' dead but it remains untrue. The best estimate around 6-7,000 civilian deaths (via the UN) – a terrible figure – for which the LTTE is responsible because they used those civilians as shields against the Army assault. Everyone knows this, so please just stop repeating nonsense about 40,000 or 100,000 dead.

India can do what it likes with its' own multiple insurgencies. It doesn't need lessons from Sri Lanka or anywhere else. Each insurgency is different. The rest if your standard whining, pious incantations and laments about the fate of the LTTE.

Paradise regained in SL? No. It'll take another 2-3 generations to overcome the divisions, suffering and damage caused by this insurgency.

Anyway, we're all looking forward to the big match tomorrow. India vs Sri Lanka for the Cricket World Cup. Oddly, AI have chosen not to repeat their disastrously ill-advised anti-SL cricket team, 'Play by the Rules' campaign as they did during the 2007 world cup.

  19. Sri Lanka arrests editor of website known for exposing govt. corruption

Colombo, April 1: A dissident Sri Lankan journalist has been arrested for allegedly threatening another man, but press freedom campaigners are of the opinion that it is a move to silence an independent voice critical about the Sri Lanka government.

LankaeNews has been subjected to a number of threats and attacks in recent years. The organisation's office was set on fire in January, and a columnist for the website has been reportedly missing since over a year.

Rupasinghe had said at that time that he suspected "a government hand" in the arson attack because the website had published many stories exposing corruption, "especially on the part of the government".

He said that the website had received a lot of threats even before the arson attack.

Last year, the chief editor of Lankaenews editor had fled the country after receiving threatening phone calls.

I’m not surprised that Rajapaksa Government is attacking press freedoms in Sri Lanka.

Rajapaksa is attacking the opposition news organizations, opposition politicos and minorities.

Recently, Minority Politico Yogeswaran said that Hindu temples in the eastern province of Sri Lanka are desecrated.

He made this comment after viewing the destruction or stealing of Hindu God statues and other Hindu temple articles and other valuable items at Periyakallaa'ru a coastal village located 30 km south of Batticaloa city, Sri Lanka

The post was in line with the subject matter and explained very well, how, there are other important matters to be discussed than a petty issue as mentioned in this post + that Sri Lanka would not be the first place such thing happened, happen or will happen. Also, he condemned what had happened in SL and was not biased to the Rajapakse's !!

If he could be unbiased, why can't AI be ??

I see many posts by Eelamists which has no relevance to the posted subject matter???

  35. @ Sivarajah: almost every post-Independence govt has abused the press, journalist and attacked their opponents via the media. The current govt's no different but they can't do it as easily because of the internet.

Even the saintly (Liberal) opposition leader Ranil, when he was Prime Minister in 2002, threatened, harnessed and eventually expelled a UK journalist Paul Harris who warned (with great accuracy) that the LTTE were unrepentant fascist who would have to be defeated.

  36. '13th Amendment Plus': India sceptical of Sri Lankan promise, because Rajapaksa had broken numerous promises.

Several U.S. Embassy cables accessed through WikiLeaks reveal that India pushed Sri Lanka on its devolution plans

In November 2008, senior presidential adviser Basil Rajapaksa said he and Sri Lanka President support a 13th Amendment- plus approach

Mr. Rajapaksa said both sides had agreed on the need to “move toward” towards a peaceful, negotiated political settlement. India wanted Sri Lanka to begin by devolving non-controversial powers such as agrarian services to the Eastern province.

The presidential adviser — he is also his brother — told the Americans that India's “No. 1 concern” was the Sri Lankan Navy firing at Indian fishermen.

In the same cable, Mr. Blake reports a later conversation with Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Alok Prasad. Contrary to Mr. Rajapaksa's impression of his New Delhi meetings, Mr. Prasad said the primary focus of the meetings was devolution, and not the issue of fishermen.

While the talks primarily focussed on how to speed up devolution in the East, Mr. Prasad noted that India had told Sri Lanka it should be thinking of “the outlines of a settlement that goes beyond devolution of power under the 13th amendment.”

LLRC established to outsmart UN effort on war crimes charges

When the pressure was mounting on Sri Lanka with the revelation of authentic account of war crimes by its soldiers in the international media, the UN Secretary General had to find ways to deal with the situation. His efforts were determinedly thwarted by Sri Lanka with the help of China and some NAM countries. Ban appointed a panel of experts to advise him on accountability issues. This was too much for Mahinda Rajapakse and he told Ban that his move was "uncalled for and unwarranted", in a statement.

Knowing that Ban is planning to appoint an expert panel President Mahinda Rajapakse went on the preemptive strike by appointing his own Lesson Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) in May 2010- a month ahead of the appointment of the UN panel and a year after the bloody massacre in the war front. He did everything to undermine the UN panel and Ban.

The results of India's actions are nicely bearing fruit as the Pakistanis and Chinese continuously make deep inroads into Sri Lanka.

  45. Sri Lanka President Rajapaksa is extremely concern about the civilian deaths in Libya ??

    What a Sick Joke !!

Was he concerned about 40 000 Tamils butchered in Sri Lanka by Sri Lanka Armed Forces ???

Having executed thousands of civilians in the close door war, Sri Lanka is trying to stand on moral high grounds to come to the aide of the brutal dictator Maumar El Gadafi by wolf crying on civilians casualties in Libya following the Allied Forces intervention. Having kept silent until his friend, the cruel dictator, was preying on his protesting civilian population, Sri Lanka has woken up under compulsion to the bombing raids to demand civilians should not killed in actions with the engagement of UN forces.

The wolf crying Sri Lanka, quoting the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973 states: ‘measures taken under this resolution must be linked to the objective of protecting civilians and civilian populated areas. Their plight must not be allowed to deteriorate because of the use of violence. We urge on all parties the need for restraint in order to ensure the safety of civilians’. What a fallacy of a marauder who undermined the international standards and cries and committed untold war crimes of disproportionate scales. The very country is now pontificating to the world to respect human rights of the Libyan people.

  60. Sri Lanka will never give the Tamil People equal Human Rights !!

  61. Sri Lanka Armed forces want Emergency extended for colonizing East

Tamil National Alliance MP for Batticaloa, Pakiaselvam Ariyanethiran, Tuesday night told media that Sri Lankan forces were staging search operations in the three districts of Eastern Province to justify Colombo's “need” to extend the Emergency in the island. 62. Rajapksa Government expresses displeasure to New Zealand :)

The Sri Lankan Government has expressed its displeasure to New Zealand government on the latter’s recommendation of 77 yrs old Tamil man, Arumugam Thevarajan for the Queen’s Medal -Sri Lanka Acting Minister of External Affairs Dilan Perera said

    ———-

Why Sri Lanka interfering in New Zealand internal affairs ?

How about New Zealand's sovereignity ??

Queen Elizabeth II, who is the reigning queen and head of state of the 16 independent sovereign states known as the Commonwealth realms, honoured three Tamils – two Eelam Tamils and an Indian Tamil this year at New Year’s awards in New Zealand and in UK.

The Queen’s Service Medal (QSM) to 77-year-old Eelam Tamil, Arumugam Thevarajan from New Zealand, an old student of Hartley College, Point Pedro, was in specific recognition for his services to the Tamil community in New Zealand.

  63. Sinhala Mobs attacked, damaged Tamil homes and injured many Tamils with knives or other sharp weapons

Racist Sinhala hooligans along with some Muslims went on rampage in Up-Country attacking Up-Country Tamils of Tamil Nadu origin after Sri Lanka suffered defeat to India in the World Cup final on Saturday.

Local people said the unruly Sinhala mob damaged household goods entering line rooms of upcountry Tamil families.

Many Tamils were injured in the attack. Arumugan Thondaman, leader of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC), said many upcountry Tamil youths had been admitted in Dikkoya hospital with knife cuts , broken bones and other injuries

Gnanaseelan also alleged that more than 1,500 Indian fishermen who were fishing in 300 boats between Dhanushkodi and Katchativu were “attacked v” by the Lankan Navy early the morning.

The Lankan Navy had turned back on seeing the Indian Coastguard Patrol, he said

Only one body of one of the four Indian fishermen was found washed ashore at Nedunthivu

This the latest Sri Lanka Navy aggression against the Tamil Nadu fishermen despite talks were being held with the Sri Lankan officials to prevent the attack on Indian fishermen.

  77. Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) is deeply biased and dishonest

Many Tamils who testified before or filed written complaints with the government Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) were surprised that their testimonies are not published

While the commission has published every testimony of Sri Lanka government officials and others on its website, it has not published many of the testimonies alleging enforced disappearances in the Sri Lanka government forces’ custody

  78. What’s this – Has our Jimbo been overruled by Sam the Man from UKHQ?

Amnesty International , has accepted an invitation from the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US Jaliya Wickramasuriya for direct talks and has also sought approval for a delegation to visit Sri Lanka.

Asia Pacific Director of the London based International human rights group Sam Zarifi, in a letter to Wickramasuriya, said that he will be in the US from 18-21 April and would like to use that opportunity to meet the Ambassador and discuss Sri Lanka.

In the latter the human rights group, which has mostly publicly focused on alleged human rights abuses by the government, drew attention to the human rights abuses committed by the LTTE noting that there was credible and consistent reports that the LTTE committed violations of international humanitarian law.

The Lessons and Learnt Reconciliation Commissioner (LLRC) Sunday morning commenced its sittings at the auditorium of the Kalmunai (Tamil) Divisional Secretariat and recorded statements from over three hundred persons including Tamils and Muslims who have lost their children and spouses due to the arrest, abduction and killing by the Intelligence Unit of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA)

  83. Tamil, Muslim nurses barred from voting

Eastern Tamil, Muslim nurses barred from voting in Nursing Council elections

Majority of Tamil and Muslim nurses in the eastern province have their voting rights violated in the election of office bearers of the Sri Lanka Nurses Council scheduled to take place on Saturday in Colombo, according to provincial nurses’ union sources. 11 members of the 19 member Nurses Council are to be elected at Saturday election.

Ampaa'rai district Sinhalese nurses working in hospitals of Ampaa'rai, Dehiyatakandy and Maha Oya are allowed to vote.

Except in one or two hospitals, nurses in Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, Trincomalee general hospital, base hospitals in Akkaraipathu and Kaluwanchigkudi and district hospitals in Paalamunai, Oluvil, Akkaraipaththu, Thirukoail, Vaalaichchenai and Kanthalaai are barred from voting in the election.

This is an overt discrimination based on race !!!

  84. Many of Tamils – mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands and children still worry in Sri Lanka .

    They worry very much.

Their children actually may not return home at night, because they could have been arrested, abducted or mysteriously ‘disappear,’ for no better reason than them being of the “wrong” ethnicity, age or sometimes even location.

  85. Every day you read about robberies, rape, killing, disappearance and mistreatment of the Tamil by the Sri Lanka military/police forces in large scale on island.

Why Sri Lanka Military men have outnumbered the Tamil population in Jaffna now?

The simple truth is Tamils live in fear in Sri Lanka

. There is no law and order maintained and North and East. Ultimately Sinhale only military decide what Tamils should say or deserve.

  86. Why approaching the 2 year mark since the end of the war, people, mostly in the Vanni, are still being registered door-to-door by the military? Part and parcel of the registration process is of course, that each house is given a registration number which is made mandatory to have marked on both your front door and you’re the outside of our gate. In addition, a group picture is taken of the entire family, and one member of the family (usually the head of the household) is required to hold up a piece of paper with their respective registration number on it, for yet another photograph to be taken (much like a prisoner would). The worst part though, is that these people think it’s “normal.” They think that if this is what needs be done for them to live their day to day life in peace, then, so be it. All this rings okay with the rest of us citizens. It is for the greater good after all. That too is only the few who know that such humiliating, undignified “processes” are even being carried out.

The State can randomly arrest parts of our “citizenship” on the faintest hint of suspicion, under a law that has been specifically designed to justify any unlawful acts conducted by the State, in order to uphold National Security, we see rationality in it. A part of our citizenship is still not permitted to return to their homes located within High Security Zones (HSZs) in the North, however, visitors to the North are permitted to go “sightseeing” inside those very HSZs.

The State spends over one billion rupees on the Indian International Film Academy (IIFA) awards held in Colombo last year, but claim they have inadequate funds to house and feed their internally displaced citizenship around the country. It’s fine by the rest of the citizenship, because they got to see their favourite Bollywood Stars perform Live. Of course let’s not forget that a Star or two were taken on a goodwill mission “behind the wires” too, so it’s not all bad.

Similarly, the State has incurred hundreds of millions of dollars on a Port in the Incumbent’s hometown, Hambantota, which has been allegedly refused maritime insurance by Lloyds, London. Furthermore, the State imported 3 power train sets (each of which costing 3.5 million US$), of a fleet of 20 from India, one of which was tried out and failed on it’s first run due to complications including inadequate power supply. Irrespective of this rather pricey “hitch” though, it seems like the Government is planning to go ahead with the entire purchase without as much as a trial period to see if these trains are conducive to our railway system In yet another display of waste, our dear incumbent has successfully managed to garner a 300 million US$ arms loan from Russia, to safeguard ‘Post-War’ Sri Lanka, pushing us as a country, further and further into debt.

  94. Lanka-born German Senator assists Jaffna schools

Sri Lankan-born German senator Ian K. Karan has initiated several projects to uplift the infrastructure facilities of schools at his birth place in Point Pedro, Jaffna.

Senator Karan is also a former State Minister of Economic Affairs and Labour in Hamburg, Germany.

He handed over a schoolbus worth Rs. 1.8 million to Methodist Girls' High School, Point Pedro at a ceremony at the German Embassy premises in Colombo last week.

German Ambassador Jens Plotner noted that the Senator's gesture of reinvesting in his home town set an example for other Sri Lankan Tamils living abroad, who were eager to give back to their communities.

The Methodist Girls' School is a leading girls' school in the Northern Province. "We have over a 1,000 students in our school and each year our students participate in various competitions and tournaments across the Jaffna peninsula. But until the new bus was received we had to spend a lot of money on travelling," said Principal J/Methodist girls' High School, Point Pedro, S. Suntharesan.

The Lankan born-Senator is a former student of Hartley College, Point Pedro and left the island 40 years ago, according to the Embassy of Germany.

The Valikaamam HSZ, created after uprooting villages, is in the best of the fertile lands and the occupying military has already leased out large tracts of them to Sinhala businessmen. If farming could take place why mines are an excuse to hand over the lands to the owners, ask Tamils.

A group of Sinhala hoodlum led by a Buddhist monk had chased away a group of Tamil famers who have been doing paddy cultivation in the fields in Muthalai-madu and Padukaadu in Seruwila division in Trincomalee district for the last four decades. Tamil farmers are from villages Paddiththidal, Ma'natcheanai and Ki'liveddi, who possess deeds for their paddy fields in Muthalai-madu and Padukaadu and have been doing cultivation since 1963.

The Buddhist monk had entered the paddy fields on Friday and threatened a group of Tamil farmers who were preparing their fields for cultivation for the next season to leave the area immediately. In failing to do so they would face death, the Buddhist monk was said to have threatened.

The affected Tamils immediately brought this matter to notice of the Seruwila police. As the police was found to be inactive to their complaint, they brought the matter to the notice of the Moothoor Divisional Secretary who promised to take up the matter to the authority concerned.

The excuse is that the local Tamil fishermen in the LTTE controlled areas did not register their seine-net stretches with the SL fisheries ministry. 12 stretches in A’lampil, 8 stretches in Thoo’ndaavil and 5 stretches in Chemmalai are thus grabbed and given to the Sinhalese. The Mullaiththeevu Government Agent as well as the district fisheries director had no knowledge of what the Sinhala officials from the south were doing.

As a result, about 4000 Tamil fishermen have totally lost their livelihood in Mullaiththeevu.

  118. Rajapaksa's goons attacked Tamil in London

Rajapaksa's goons attacked Tamil man R. Soosaipillai, known as Thanam, in front of his house in London Monday night. Mr.

Thanam, a veteran activist, was one of the key persons who supported the successful re-mandate of Vaddukkoaddai Resolution in UK that democratically reaffirmed the Eezham Tamil aspiration for an independent and sovereign Tamil Eelam in January 2010. He served as a mobilisation coordinator in the British Tamil Forum (BTF) during the crucial time 2008 – 2010.

Thanam, who once served the infrastructure of the Tamil national cause for 21 years, is also one who grasped the transition of the times with perception. The 47-year-old activist has been a force behind major Tamil public events in UK including the Heroes Day remembrances.

Thanam alleged that the attackers had the intention of killing him and that he was saved by his resistance and by the timely alert of his family members Monday night around 11:30 p.m.

He was attacked while he was taking out shopping items from the back of his car.

Thanam ducked the hard hit from behind on his head by a rod-like object, but it hit him on his arm. Another attack caused him an injury that needed 8 stitches.

As he fainted in between two cars, his family members raised an alarm and the attackers ran away.

A couple of days before the attack, Thanam was ‘warned’ by some elements who told him that he should ‘fall in line’ with their political agenda.

While some ‘articulate’ members of the Eezham Tamil diaspora obsessed by the artfully blackmailing question of ‘unity’ see the ongoing events in the diaspora as merely involving personalities and factions, serious political observers who know what some World establishments are really up to in practice, perceive an international ‘dialectical process’ in handling the national question in the island of Sri Lanka.

While voices are raised strongly on one hand for universal justice, human rights, change of regimes and liberation of peoples and nations, for a section of forces cutting across establishments on the other hand, the paradigm of ‘counterterrorism’, aiming at opportunist corporate colonialism, is yet to be over.

Many world forces pouring money and deploying ‘diplomacy’ to strengthen the majoritarian, genocidal, Colombo-centric and military-controlled regime in the island; their reluctance to check the genocide and war criminals; their bold meddling in the island defying all universal values, and the continued terrorisation and victimisation of all Eezham Tamils spirited in their liberation ideology are not isolated events, political observers said.

Tamil circles in London said that they expect the British police to act in not only nabbing the culprits but also in exposing the remote hands, if any, operating in terrorising the Eezham Tamil diaspora in London.

The Colombo regime and a section of its abettors have openly declared ‘war’ on the diaspora of Eezham Tamils, the Tamil circles alleged.

  123. Sinhalese destroying Tamil lands

Illegal excavation of limestone threatens ecology of Jaffna

Threatening the entire groundwater and fragile ecology of Jaffna peninsula, a private Sinhalese company is engaged in the illegal excavation of limestone in the High Security Zone (HSZ) while Rajapaksa government refuses to reveal details of this enterprise in the area from Maaviddapuram to Keerimalai where the uprooted Tamil residents have not been allowed to resettle for the past twenty years.

The indiscriminate excavation of limestone in a 4 sq km area at depths of nearly 40 feet has already caused seepage of sea water and it is feared the area becoming submerged.

The underground channels that bring in freshwater to the innumerable aquifers of the peninsula, have an underneath entry into sea adjacent to the locality of the quarries. It is obvious how indiscriminate quarrying and the possibility of seawater coming inside can affect the potable water of the masses.

Meanwhile, the uprooted Tamil civilians resettled near the area are left on their own abandoned by the Sri Lanka government to suffer in makeshift structures on bare lands without any basic facilities.

The ill-nourished Tamil children of the resettled civilians watch with vacant eyes as lorries after lorries full of construction materials for houses pass them by.

Around 18 hours before the surrender of the LTTE Political Head B Nadesan and other civil officials of the LTTE that ended in their killing by the Sri Lanka Army, the UN officials served in the island met in Vavuniyaa and made plans to receive them on behalf of the UN. 133. Improprieties in the US account of Human Rights violations.

    Part 2
Again, with what seems a political agenda, the report moves straight from the death in Jaffna on December 31st 2010 to the killing of the ACF workers in Mutur in 2006. It notes that there has been no public report of the Commission of Inquiry, but refers to reports that that report blames ‘ACF for allowing its workers to be in an unsafe location, at the same time exonerating all government security forces from any possible involvement in the killing of the aid workers.’

I have no idea what the report says, but this is a highly simplified version of what I hope makes clear the strange behavior of ACF not in ‘allowing its workers to be in an unsafe location’ but in sending them in to what other humanitarian agencies knew was a highly dangerous situation from which they all – with the exception of ACF – were withdrawing their workers. The failure of ACF to follow international guidelines of procedures (which then UN Under-Secretary Sir John Holmes kindly sent me), their refusal to testify properly before the Commission (indeed their hasty flight when hard questions were being asked) suggests a conspiratorial element too in the effort to stampede the world into believing Sri Lankan security forces were responsible. It is noteworthy that the contribution of the then Head of the SLMM involved breaching the provisions of his contract, as was granted by his successor, General Lars Solvberg, whom I found admirably conscientious.

It is sad then to find the US Department of State falling in with this strange conspiracy, and not rather using its moral authority to get ACF to pay proper compensation to the relations of the victims it had sent into danger. But, at the same time, we must realize that this sort of attack is made easier by our failure to make public the findings of the Commission. It is true that, from the perspective of an informed but inexpert observer, I believe that in one of the cases considered by the Commission, individuals behaved improperly. If this is the case, it needs to be addressed. However, in most if not all of the other cases, I believe no blame can be attached to government forces, and that position will be less contentious if we do admit to errors where they have occurred, and that internal mechanisms are perfectly capable of addressing such problems.

Similarly, we should ensure that there is proper closure on the Mahanama Tillekeratne Commission to look into disappearances etc, and we need to pursue more carefully the investigation into the murder of Lasantha Wickramatunga. I have pointed out previously that those who immediately found Defence forces guilty were in fact inhibiting investigation, and that the approach of the Civil Rights Movement was much more positive: that made it clear, if I recollect aright, that investigation was important, and that if such investigation led nowhere, it suggested a lack of professionalism on the part of the police. If this is the case, we cannot continue complacent, but must ensure remedial action. Similarly, there must be more concerted effort with regard to investigation of a killing which the US Report links to Member of Parliament Duminda Silva. Naming him here, and adding a reference to a rape case, again seems to indicate the political purpose of the report, though in this case too Government should ensure a more professional approach on the part of the police.

Just before that final paragraph, the US report makes reference to the 2009 Channel 4 video, and refers to Philip Alston’s argument that this was authentic. Though the report notes contradictions that have emerged with regard to the video and what was claimed to be its continuation, shown in November 2010, and also the Government evidence that the video was a fabrication, it makes no reference to our arguments against Alston’s conclusions based on his own chosen experts. This is possibly because we have not put down our refutations in writing officially. I have made a detailed critique, but unfortunately I have no official status, and indeed my capacity to respond to Alston was vitiated by officials of the Ministry of External Affairs way back in 2009. Had they substituted someone more effective, I would have been delighted, but it seems that this matter has only been dealt with verbally, which is what permits continuing authority to Alston’s highly prejudiced approach – including his belittling of the findings of his experts, that throw doubt on the video. I hope that, since this along with the White Flag story are the main components of allegations against our forces, we will show how riddled they are with contradictions and malice.

  134. SL asylum seekers in tents

The Australian Immigration Department is unable to confirm how long asylum seekers at a far north Queensland detention centre will be housed in tents.

There are 570 detainees from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka at the Scherger RAAF base near Weipa on western Cape York. A temporary detention centre was set up in October to house 300 detainees to relieve pressure on the Christmas Island facility.

The Immigration Department recently announced Scherger would stay open until at least the middle of next year. A spokesman has confirmed some of the detainees are staying in marquee-style accommodation. He says it is a short-term measure but cannot say when the situation is likely to change.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to investigate the death of a 20-year-old detainee at the facility last month. The Immigration Department says there have been no further incidents. Source: ABC news

  135. Improprieties in the US account of Human Rights violations.

    Part 1
The 2010 Human Rights Report on Sri Lanka issued by the BUREAU OF DEMOCRACY, HUMAN RIGHTS, AND LABOR of the US Department of State is potentially a useful document for Sri Lanka, since it brings together several cases which need to be pursued. Seven cases are cited of deaths in police custody, one involving four persons in Trincomalee, and another two in Moratuwa. These are disgraceful, and they should not only be investigated thoroughly, but action should be taken against the perpetrators if unnecesssry violence was used. In only three of the instances are there even allegations of provocation, and those too do not seem entirely plausible.

We know that all over the world police can sometimes react violently to what they perceive as criminality. It is not excuse however to cite precedent. We all know for instance of the Rodney King incident in the United States, and that the perpetrators were acquitted, despite clear visual evidence. However they were brought to trial, which at least provides a deterrent against further such abuses. We in Sri Lanka must ensure that action is taken, and it is sad that it is left to the Americans to continue to maintain records of such cases. This also shows up the selectivity of journalists and others who claim to be defenders of Human Rights. Though there was dramatic reporting of, for instance, the case of the two youngsters killed in Angulana, there has been little follow up. I believe some action was taken at the time, but there has been little attention to follow up. Equally appalling is the lack of concern about what is reported as ‘the March 2009 deaths of four persons in the Trincomalee area who were in police custody in connection with the killing of a schoolgirl.’

Unfortunately the reality is that most so-called Defenders of Human Rights are more concerned with the political mileage they can get from their pronouncements than with the victims. Though it should not blind us to the real concerns raised by the US report, the same seems to be true of its American authors. In addition to clearly being dependent on local observers they will not identify, though they anxiously assert several times that these are independent, they engage in some sleight of hand that reveals their predilections. Two of the instances they note with regard to what they call ‘Arbitrary or Unlawful Deprivation of Life’ (and six of the eleven individuals killed) relate to 2009 rather than 2010.

Equally significantly, mixed in with these are assertions about alleged killings by government supporters. A long paragraph points fingers at Pillaiyan and Karuna, erroneously lumping them together in the TMVP, as well as at Douglas Devananda. Only one example is cited for all of this, the death on December 31st 2010 of ‘Ketheeswaran Thevarajah’. The paragraph that is used for justification of the vicious attack on government ministers who repudiated terrorism and entered the democratic process is worth citing in full – ‘On December 31, unidentified armed men entered the home of Ketheeswaran Thevarajah near Jaffna and killed him. He recently had posted photos of illegal sand excavation on his Facebook profile. Many local Jaffna residents suspect EPDP subsidiaries were illegally mining sand in the Jaffna region, causing environmental damage.’

That this paragraph is the sole justification for denigration of the most solid opponents of LTTE terrorism makes clear what is obviously a forceful element in the inspiration behind the report. It is desirable therefore that our Ministry of External Affairs call in the American Ambassador and formally but politely raise questions about the methodology involved. She herself is not I believe a supporter of terrorists, even those masquerading as recent converts to democratic practice, but what I hope is her less prejudiced approach has been set aside in such paragraphs.

What is particularly outrageous about the manner in which the report is written is that it unequivocally associates Pillaiyan and Karuna and Devananda with criminal characteristics. Though the paragraph notes that the number of what is termed extra-judicial killings dropped significantly, the manner in which, with a twisting of language which would have impressed Orwell, government ministers are likened to criminals is vicious, and should be taken up by the Ministry of External Affairs.

  136. Improprieties in the US account of Human Rights violations.

  138. Complaints about the disappearance of 50 residents in the Jaffna District between the period of end February till end March have been reported to the Jaffna Police. The Police have recovered 12 dead bodies out of those disappeared.
People are disturbed at how the disappearances take place when there is one security officer for every 13 residents in Jaffna. While there are 670,000 persons living in the Jaffna District, there are over 50,000 security forces personnel and police officers assigned to the district.
A senior police officer said that several armed groups were responsible for the disappearances.

UN served a ploy to surrender killings
Around 18 hours before the surrender of the LTTE Political Head B Nadesan and other civil officials of the LTTE that ended in their killing by the Sri Lanka Army, the UN officials served in the island met in Vavuniyaa and made plans to receive them on behalf of the UN. The UN officials were very well aware of who were coming to surrender, said a high-ranking UN worker who was involved in the arrangements to TamilNet on Monday. All the UN officers who served in the island at the time of the war are either no more in UN service or have left the island. The UN was used as a ploy in arranging and enacting the ‘surrender’ and then to kill the LTTE officials, Tamil political observers said. Vijay Nambiar, chief of staff to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, was in Colombo at the time.

  141. Improprieties in the US account of Human Rights violations.

  142. Sinhala colonization threatens coastal areas of Mannaar

Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapakse led United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government has been implementing a planned scheme to settle Sinhalese persons in the southern coastal areas of Mu'l'lik-ku'lam, Thampapa'l'li in Ko'ndaichchi and areas along Madu road in the Mannaar district. Lands belonging to Tamil villagers in these areas are being grabbed to settle Sinhalese from the south

Mu'l'lik-ku'lam area has been brought under the control of the Sri Lanka Navy with the conclusion of the war.

While displaced Tamil families from the village are not allowed to resettle in their houses, the Sri Lanka Navy has taken steps to set up naval base along the coastal areas of the village.

Ko'ndaichchi is well known for cashew cultivation. The entire cashew cultivation had been destroyed in the war.

Now the Colombo government is engaged in bringing Sinhala people from south and settles them under the guise of rehabilitating the area.

Three persons clad in police uniform hijacked a white van belonging to Thinakkural newspaper at Wall’s Lane in Modera, Monday 6:30 p.m., claiming that they were suspicious over documents that were in the van.

Hijackers dropped the driver off the vehicle at Kelaniya in Gampaha police division.

Later, the driver S. Selvarajah was detained at Modera police station.

Recently, SL government quarters exerted pressure on Thinakkural administration while various actors, including those operated by SL military, were competing to buy the shares of the paper.

For the first annual Bay Area Walk Against Genocide which involved a 3-mile walk conducted in Oakland, California on Sunday April 10th, 2011, nearly 500 protesters turned up, organizers of the event said. "Activities providing a unique opportunity to meet local genocide survivors and their families, hearing their stories, and learning to make a difference by getting involved," participants in the protest campaign said. Several groups including the Darfur Coalition, Enough Project and Coalition of Tamils Against Genocide took part.

  145. Bay Area Walk in Oakland, California USA, highlights "Tamil Genocide" in Sri Lanka

The "Genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka" was mentioned by all the speakers at the event. While remembering the Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust, Cambodia and Rwanda genocides, the situation in Darfur and Sri Lanka were highlighted as present day hot spots.

Rebecca Hamilton, a fellow at the New America Foundation, and Omer Ismail, advisor to The Enough Project were the keynote speakers.

At the start of 2009 Rebecca Hamilton left her position at the International Criminal Court in The Hague to work full-time on an investigation into the impact of the U.S. mass movement for Darfur. “It is not enough to put the spot light on Genocide, but we should put the flood light on all the places like Darfur, Chad and Sri Lanka where genocides continue,” said Ms. Hamilton.

More than 25 Tamils participated in the event under the banner of Coalition of Tamils Against Genocide.

"The Coalition expressed solidarity with the survivors of all genocides, and sought support from other participating groups to call for international investigation of the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Sri Lanka where over 40,000 Tamil civilians perished in May 2009. The Coalition members also collected signatures asking the US Congress to act on Sri Lanka," one of the Tamil participants said.

Many of the threats were realized, Jayantha said.

"The first shots after the war was over were fired at the journalists and free media," Jayantha said. "They virtually crushed the free media institutions, and they only have the pro-government media to assassinate the character of the people who oppose them, or they actually use death squads to kill them."

    Justice for Tamil War Victims

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Should Use Findings to Press for Justice said HRW

The report by a panel of experts to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on April 12, 2011, about laws-of-war violations in Sri Lanka should be used to pave the way for justice, Human Rights Watch said today. Ban commissioned the report in May 2010 after the Sri Lankan government failed to investigate violations committed in the final months of its decades-long conflict with the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Ban's office said today that he will make the report public after he shares it with the Sri Lankan government. "Secretary-General Ban's creation of a panel of experts and his decision to make the report public show that the UN has not forgotten Sri Lanka's war victims," said Brad Adams, Asia director at Human Rights Watch. "In the face of two years of stonewalling by the government, the public release of this report will help move justice forward in Sri Lanka."

Though the right figures are notavailable, as the Statistics Canada does not conduct survey regarding the numbers by ethnic background, it is believed that over 200,000 Tamil Canadians live in Canada. 200,000 is NOT a small number. With regret we have to digest the fact that the Tamil Canadians do not have a single representative in the top institution, , the House of Commons.

Importance of Tamil Canadians’ representation at the Parliament Hill The absence of an effective and efficient representative among the country’s policy makers, affects the basic rights ofour Canadian Tamil Community. Our needs and grievances are not taken to the top body as it should be. We are unable to raise our voice officially for the benefit of our loved ones who suffer at our ancestral homeland.

Rathika Sitsabaiesan, federal NDP candidate for Scarborough Rouge River
300 Tamils came to support Sitsabaiesan and her upcoming election campaign. The event was a milestone in the promising career of this
young candidate, illustrating her close ties to the community. The
outstanding support bodes well for her hopes of representing her community
    in Parliament

  162. Ethnic Cleansing in Sri Lanka even affects the Tamil New Year !!!

The Sinhalese Racist are erasing Tamil language from the New Year Celebrations.

Genocidal Rajapaksa Regime is forbidding to use a traditional Tamil words describing the Tamil New Year -Thamizh Thikathi.

  163. Tamils also don’t understand the logic – in erasing Tamil language from the New Year Celebrations and concept of the secular festivals they observe and are carried away by shallow rhetoric by Sinhalese Racists

Now they lose even the Tamil identity of their festival of the New Year Celebrations to the Sinhalese.

The Sinhala chauvinists also claim the New Year festival as ‘Aryan’ and not have nothing to do with Tamils

  164. Hypocrisy over Sri Lanka in 2009 and Libya in 2011

The Sri Lankan President and his ministers say that “Protection of the civilian population in Libya remains a concern for Sri Lanka” and government media say that “Air strikes on Libya unacceptable

The Sri Lankan President, who criticised the Western Coalition’s air attacks on Libya, should realise that the coalition forces went into Libya with a UN resolution to protect civilians. Whereas he had an illegal coalition to kill the civilians in Sri Lanka ????

The President does not realise that his lies, bogus promises and duping of the international community in the past can be considered the reason for today’s quick response to Libya by the international community! The way Sri Lanka took the international community for a ride during the final days of the war in 2009, primed the international community into neither listening nor trusting the Libyan President.

During the peak hours of the war in Mullivaghzhal, when the Foreign Ministers of France and United Kingdom travelled to Sri Lanka with the aim of bringing about a cease-fire to prevent civilians casualties, the Sri Lankan government told utter lies that there were only 40-60,000 civilians in Mullivaghzhal, but claimed at the end of the war that there were 300,000 civilians.

The Sri Lankan President also gave a lecture about “sovereignty and integrity” to the visiting Foreign Ministers and told them not to interfere in internal affairs.

Here we can clearly see the double standards of international justice and the hypocrisy of the Sri Lankan government

  165. Thank you HRW !!!!! :) :) :)

Ban’s office said today that he will make the report public after he shares it with the Sri Lankan government. “Secretary-General Ban’s creation of a panel of experts and his decision to make the report public show that the UN has not forgotten Sri Lanka’s war victims,” said Brad Adams, Asia director at Human Rights Watch. “In the face of two years of stonewalling by the government, the public release of this report will help move justice forward in Sri Lanka.”

Tiny Tamil minority in the Sri Lanka has no justice

Many Tamils languish in Sri Lanka prisons for years and years where they endure torture, humiliation and death

Tamil prisoners are taken to the Colombo High Court once every 14-days to mark their presence in the jail, but have no legal representation due to lack of financial resources. " Sinhala Only Judges are reluctant to take action to release the inmates due to political compulsion."

One youth from Batticaloa, arrested when he was 14-years old is in the prison for more than 18 years, exceeding the customary 14-years normally served by prisoners with life-imprisonment.

With the exception two of the Tamil inmates who have relatives visiting them, most of the others Tamils have no visitors and are inflicted with illnesses arising from constant torture by prison guards

It is shame and silliness if Mango and some other commentators above consider ‘accountability’ as a ‘technical’ issue by dismissing it by demanding ‘evidences’ and ‘eye witnesses’ etc.

Yes, evidences are required in any such situation. But it is not the only criteria.

The HR defenders globally termed it as a ‘war without witness’, long before this UN panel was nominated, even before the war was over.

Besides, there are plenty of circumstantial evidences available.

It has technical ‘eyes’ and ‘hears’ today.

Moreover such capabilities are not only the privileges of the states today. Non state actors are too equipped with such.

We are not talking about the subject of separatist tendency and unity and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka here.

There can be many confrontational views on this subject. I for one respect the territorial integrity

But what we are discussing here is about murder, rape, genocide, indiscriminate bombardments, use of banned weapons by the Srilankan against its own citizens

  175. Why after two years of end of the war, there is still a massive military presence in the North, and there are permits required from the defense secretary to travel to these areas ?

No neutral organization or NGOs allowed to travel and however no media personal can report without fear of abduction or death.

Is this how the home grown solution should look like?

In the past all reports of any implemented commissions to find a solution for the ethnic conflict were dumped!

Rajapaksa says the UN panel report is “biased & flawed” like other denials of GoSL, and you know why.

There was no real interest in reconciliation from the Rajapaksa side, the only interest is to stay in power and using patriotism and nationalism to reach this goal.

All comments and interventions from outside were denied under the cloak of sovereignty.

By extending the Emergency rule under the presumptuous threat of terrorism all civic rights are run to their minimum.

And Rajapaksa's ruling party buys MPs of the opposition with the promise of a minister post to achieve the majority in the parliament…. how can anyone call it democracy?

  176. Every sensible person knew that Rajapaksa would reject the UN Panel report.

The Sinhalese mind is totally and irreversably “flawed” and “biased”.

It can never see reason and justice on Tamil matters.

Although the report didn't touch the hot topic of serious allegations against the role the UN officials and certain responsible personalities associated with world powers, it said: The Secretary-General should conduct a comprehensive review of actions by the United Nations system during the war in Sri Lanka and the aftermath, regarding the implementation of its humanitarian and protection mandates

  186. Sri Lanka Army killed Tamils in the Red Cross ships

"The government shelled on a large scale in three consecutive no fire zones, where it had encouraged the civilian population to concentrate. It shelled the United Nations hub, food distribution lines and near the International Committee of the Red Cross ships that were coming to pick up the wounded and their relatives from the beaches," the report said.

The government "systematically shelled" hospitals in the front lines and all hospitals were hit by artillery and mortar shells, despite the government knowing their locations, the report said..

It also "systematically deprived people in the conflict zone of humanitarian aid, in the form of food and medical supplies, particularly surgical supplies, adding to their suffering. To this end, it purposely underestimated the number of civilians who remained in the conflict zone," the panel said.

Tens of thousands died in just the last five months of the war that ended in May 2009 and many of them died anonymously in the carnage, it said.

Many Sri Lankans are sick of the corrupt, violent, and revengeful Rajapakses. What happened in Egypt will not happen here because of the fear of uncontrolled, wholesale slaughter of demonstrators. So, our only hope is for the international community that upholds some democratic values (which excludes China, Iran, etc) to impose sanctions. Let those who committed or ordered the massacre of civilians, including Gotabhaya and Sarath Fonseka in they are guilty, be punished.

Over 100,000 Tamil civilians remain unaccounted for after Sri Lanka’s onslaught in 2009 into the northern Vanni region, Channel 4 reported Saturday. Government census forms obtained by Channel 4 show 430,000 residents in Vanni in mid 2008. However internal UN documents also obtained by Channel 4 show only 290,000 people coming out of the final enclave overrun by the government’s troops and being put into its militarized internment camps.

Only 60% of the original residents have returned, a Channel 4 source who recently visited Vanni also said.

The UN spokesperson in Sri Lanka at the time of the government’s final onslaught, Australian man, Gorden Weiss, says the death toll could be “shockingly high.”

  194. Very Interesting Filter by Amnesty International !!

May I seek your approval to reply the fale statements and cut and paste articles of the Low Mental, retarded LTTE Apes of Peelam (please note that the posts will be totally off topic as I will have to reply for posts that are off topic and that you have not sent through your much bragged aboutfiltering process !!

We have over time asked the Mental retards of the LTTE Die Ass Pora to let us know how they got a figure of 40,000 to 100,000 killed in the final battle between the SL Army and the retards of LTTE including Walapalle Piribaharan. todate, they have failed to give the sources (credible) and the only source that has some kind of credibility is the report put out by UN which says 6,000 (Which includes Slained LTTE carders and those civilians who were killed by the LTTE them selves)

We have also asked for the retards to provide us with figures of the civilians that were killed by the LTTE (Out of the 100,000 as they seems to be getting figures better than the whole world would get from credible sources). But, still they have failed to produce any kind of answeres (at least logical fabricated answers which is acceptable as they lack evolved human brains)

Further, as a human, I vehemantly condemn Amnesty International allowing these retards to make such bogus posts on a site ment for an organization that is suppose to stand up for Human Rights. Amnesty should not allow lies to be posted on their blogs as a person who is laymen to the situation would actually get a wrong picture. We have seen it happen in other countries where the Retards of LTTE have managed to lie to government and people about a false situation in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, even HR Pundits as Jim Mc Donnald seems to have been caught where he had the odasity to publish an article accusing GOSL of attacking using cluster bombs when such weapon had not crossed the boarders of the country. The retards are also good at paying people to get their dirty work done. Hope Humans will not fall in to retarded Ape's trap for the sake of Humanity.

What other "Witness" are we talking of here ??? an Un-seen Alien voice that would come to you in the night when you are a sleep??

Appreciate your answer to this – like to see how you primates think and how much you have evolved over the past 2 years..

The HR defenders globally termed it as a ‘war without witness’, long before this UN panel was nominated, even before the war was over.

Can you please let us know how a proper war could be witnessed ?? How many are witnessing the USA atrocities against Middle East?? Also, how may of these HR orgs talk against a media release by Obama?? They only would do it to MR or a none-western country's leader…. Joke noh?

Besides, there are plenty of circumstantial evidences available.

Please put them forward – show us the evidence – like to see what format it comes in.

If you are willing to, let's talk about the Murder, Rape, Genocide etc..
I am ready. In fact, we had asked many a times for examples specially on Genocide – We love this word Genocide – we even gave links to several dictionaries that gave the meaning of this beautiful word "GENOCIDE" – but, none of your Retarded Apes wanted to talk about this So called Genocide that happening in Sri Lanka – I asked about great Tamil Leaders who were killed by the LTTE and askded whether that's what they meant by Genocide, but no one replied…. Same with rape… Murder etc… Please – bring it on… we are waiting – let's see the strength of your spine..

We don't defend anybody – which includes you retards. That's where the Issue is. You try to defend the brutal acts of Terrorists – we never say that the GOSL is right in everything they do, but, we also critisize the Retards of LTTE for the wronf they did.

How many Tamils have to be killed to in order to implement the Sinhala hegemony in North and East?

Ask the remaining LTTE Retards that question. Now, no Tamil or Singhalees or Muslim is being killed in SL. It was the LTTE who killed more tamils than anyone else. I can understand a smaller guy picking up violence to protect himself BUT never the GOVERNMENT.

Thats the biggest betrayal of trust – hardly a show of heroism.

True peace can never be achieved unless a mediator helps to draw on the real issues and establishes a framework to address these root cause.

I think whats happening in Sri Lanka war is disgraceful.

The people of Lanka need to be smarter than this…

    1. Bring all those responsible for any killing to trial
    2. Fix the governance structure to ensure minorities are not being opressed – equal rights on merrit
    3. DONT celebrate as a victory – there were 40,000 people killed in a space of 2 weeks

  200. Impose sanctions against Sri Lanka !!!!

Many Sri Lankans are sick of the corrupt, violent, and revengeful Rajapakses

Rajapaksa repressive regime butcher 40 000 innocent Tamil women, men and children

This is why many Sinhalese fear of uncontrolled, wholesale slaughter of their peaceful demonstrators in Sri Lanka

So, our only hope is for the international community that upholds some democratic values (which excludes China, Iran, etc) to impose sanctions.

Let those who committed or ordered the massacre of civilians be punished.

  201. UN report said that Rajapaksa regime deliberately shelling civilians, hospitals and UN aid agency offices.

The UN had initially said at least 7,000 civilians were killed during the last stages of the war. But with the new report talking about "tens of thousands" of civilian deaths, the figure of how many actually died in the final days would now have to be calculated again.

The report dismissed the government's claim of conducting a humanitarian rescue mission of displaced Tamils held hostage by the retreating LTTE.

"The Government shelled on a large scale in three consecutive No Fire Zones, where it had encouraged the civilian population to concentrate, even after indicating that it would cease the use of heavy weapons. It shelled the United Nations hub, food distribution lines and near the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) ships that were coming to pick up the wounded and their relatives from the beaches."

"It shelled in spite of its knowledge of the impact, provided by its own intelligence systems and through notification by the United Nations, the ICRC and others. Most civilian casualties in the final phases of the war were caused by Sri Lanka Government shelling," the report said.

Sri Lankan war criminals and Rip Van Winkle have developed the mentality of cannibalism.

They have gone crazy and their mentality is similar to a psychopath serial killer driven by “thirst for human blood”.

Rajapaksa Regime has mastered the manipulation in hoodwinking the Whole World and is fooling the Sinhalese to follow its policy of appalling brutality

  204. Thamilar :)

Thank you for exposing people like Rip Van Winkle for the frauds that they are!!.

  205. Who is responsible for ?

    - Aid workers killings
    - Trinco students killings
    - Tamil MP’s killings
    - Journalists (including Lasantha) murders

All Sri Lankans know the truth but afraid to tell !!!

  206. What the UN report shows is that Mahinda Rajapakse is a war criminal. Gothabaya Rajapakse is also a war criminal. What the report does not state, but has been extensively documented elsewhere, is the diplomatic cover provided by India for S. Lanka to carry out its massive genocide of tens of thousands of Tamils. At the end of the day, the Sri Lankan Government/State is a sorry excuse for humanity.

Hope Humans will not fall in to retarded Ape’s trap for the sake of Humanity.

It is shame and silliness if Mango and some other commentators above consider ‘accountability’ as a ‘technical’ issue by dismissing it by demanding ‘evidences’ and ‘eye witnesses’ etc.

What other “Witness” are we talking of here ??? an Un-seen Alien voice that would come to you in the night when you are a sleep??

Appreciate your answer to this – like to see how you primates think and how much you have evolved over the past 2 years..

The HR defenders globally termed it as a ‘war without witness’, long before this UN panel was nominated, even before the war was over.

Can you please let us know how a proper war could be witnessed ?? How many are witnessing the USA atrocities against Middle East?? Also, how may of these HR orgs talk against a media release by Obama?? They only would do it to MR or a none-western country’s leader…. Joke noh?

Besides, there are plenty of circumstantial evidences available.

Please put them forward – show us the evidence – like to see what format it comes in.

The world today is not the world that was ten years ago. It has technical ‘eyes’ and ‘hears’ today. trust you meant EARS – Yes indeed, it makes life easy for us and bad for Retarded terrorists… !!

But what we are discussing here is about murder, rape, genocide, indiscriminate bombardments, use of banned weapons by the Srilankan against its own citizens

If you are willing to, let’s talk about the Murder, Rape, Genocide etc..
I am ready. In fact, we had asked many a times for examples specially on Genocide – We love this word Genocide – we even gave links to several dictionaries that gave the meaning of this beautiful word “GENOCIDE” – but, none of your Retarded Apes wanted to talk about this So called Genocide that happening in Sri Lanka – I asked about great Tamil Leaders who were killed by the LTTE and askded whether that’s what they meant by Genocide, but no one replied…. Same with rape… Murder etc… Please – bring it on… we are waiting – let’s see the strength of your spine..

I must congratulate AI, Jim McD and his minions in achieving what I thought would've been impossible, a few months ago. i.e, ensuring that even the bitterest (and the more intelligent) political opponents of the current SL govt will have to rally behind them to prevent the UN and its 'running dogs' (always loved that term and I used it advisedly) from carrying out a successful 'war crimes' investigation against Sri Lanka.

If they don't, the SL electorate will ensure that those who support the hypocritical UNSG & the usual cabal of self-interested int'l HR bodies against those delivered us from the curse of LTTE violence will face continued electoral defeats.

We know how this game plays out, because we can see with our own eyes that despite the West having caused almost 1.5 million civilian casualties in its wars over the last 30 years (the same time frame as Eelam Wars 1-4), not a single Western political or military leader has yet been indicted for War Crimes, punished by their domestic courts or even been successfully pursued by human rights organizations like AI, HRW etc.
    http://thecarthaginiansolution.wordpress.com/2011

As for the bleating of the Eelamists, odd that none of you spoke so passionately during Eelam War 4 to prevent the LTTE driving these hapless Tamil civilians to their deaths.

@ Keeri who says "Let those who committed or ordered the massacre of civilians be punished." An excellent idea, already enforced in Sri Lanka.

Your leader and his top leadership, who ordered innumerable civilian massacres was punished, by death.

This kind of "humanitarian operation" carried out by SLA in the North East of Sri Lanka !!!!!!!!!!!

  240. India snubs Mahinda Rajapaksa :) :) :)

India officially uninvited President Rajapaksa to watch the Cricket World Cup in Mumbai, India

    He went there anyway. :(

President Rajapaksa arrived in India with an unwieldy delegation and demanded head-of-state treatment, this way he gave Delhi a superb opportunity to assuage its irritation by delivering him a well-targeted snub.

  241. "Rajapaksa security state" is costing Sri Lanka dear

The Rajapaksas may think they are immune from this universal reality because they have got away with so much, but it is an illusory impunity. The illusion will last longer nationally (years, perhaps decades) but internationally, Sri Lanka is already paying for the misdeeds of her rulers.

According to media reports, the OECD has refused to amend the low-ranking accorded to Sri Lanka, despite persistent lobbying by the Sri Lanka Central Bank. In consequence,“European businesses will have to pay higher risk premiums in obtaining credit insurance if they are to trade with Sri Lanka”(ibid). Rajapaksa loyalists may argue that the OECD is punishing us. Perhaps; if so, by maintaining the Emergency, the PTA and other repressive laws, almost two years after the war, the Rajapaksas have presented the EU with a clincher to justify its punitive policy.

During the April Emergency Debate, PM Jayaratne invoked the Tiger bogey, predictably, saying that some former Tigers are lapsing into Tigerism! The Rajapaksas are maintaining repressive laws as a protective-shield not for Sri Lanka but for themselves. But by invoking the Tiger bogey to justify the prolongation of the Emergency, they are damning Sri Lanka internationally, as an unstable and a not-very-safe place. After all, when the Lankan Prime Minister repeatedly warns the Lankan Parliament that the Tigers are still alive, the world cannot be faulted for regarding Sri Lanka as a risky prospect for trade and investment. The regime needs to understand that it cannot keep on invoking the Tiger bogey, maintain repressive laws, tolerate human rights violations (disappearances are continuing in Jaffna, reportedly) and expect the world to see Sri Lanka as a stable democracy.

  242. More good news from Eelam!

A village in Tamil Nadu is missing its idiot. R. Krishnamurthy died after setting himself on fire over the Sri Lankan Tamil issue. http://www.ttrglobal.com/?p=12658

What I don't understand is if he was so concerned about Eelam, why he didn't go to the Vanni and fight for it, when he had the chance. We know that Fatty Prabha was desperate for manpower. Instead he got idiots setting fire to themselves.

In even better news, The Transsexual Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) has declared May 18th as “National Mourning Day of Tamil Eelam”.

In Sorry Lanka, brutal Sri Lanka Army can shell innocent civilians and leave them to die a slow death without limbs and arms.

If you can go to any of the Rana Viru Sevana's (The home for disabled Army Soldiers) you will know that who is suffering from lost limbs.

Also it's a know fact that it was the Retards of LTTE who planted landmines and claimore mines all over and not the SL army which accounted for all these lost limbs. When these mines went off, they did not wait to see whether it was a Singhales or a Tamil.

The train bomb in colombo killed several school children of a basecall team in SL which also included a Tamil Student. The one which was left todate is without an arm – was this SL army's doing ? or doing of a mentally retarded terrorist group?

Here is what we call development and being Humane…. I don't think even the Abnormal International would have such brillient plans for HR development.

Also try Google – Development in East of Sri Lanka and see the results. If any Human expects a turn around in fortunes overnight after a 30 years of brutality by a Terrorist group, they really need to get their brains checked for malfunctions – By the looks of it, most who comment in these forums in favour of LTTE needs to do so immediately.

Please explain using your Eelam Logic what happened on this occasion, in Feb 2009.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxDHp2nvz9w

Here's a female (Tamil) LTTE suicide bomber exploding and killing (Tamil) children and (Tamil) civilians escaping (Tamil) LTTE 'freedom fighters' by seeking shelter & protection in a (Genocidal Sri Lankan) Army IDP camp.

I'm really confused. I thought the LTTE was meant to protect Tamils from the 'Genocidal' Sri Lankan armed forces? So why would they attack and murder Tamil children on whose behalf they claimed to be fighting?

p.s. unlike the cut'n'paste Eelam warriors, we do our own thinking. Give it a try.

  270. Dear Meikandan,
The most neutral estimate (via the UN is around 7-8,000) civilians killed in the final stages of the war. Yet you avoid facing the fact that they died acting as human shields, used by the LTTE to protect itself.

Of these civilians, there were willing LTTE cadres, conscripted, hastily-trained unwilling civilians and 12-year old kids.

This report from the Daily Telegraph is quite emphatic.

"In recent weeks (March 2009) gangs of Tiger gunmen have been roaming civilian camps under their control, at first taking one recruit from each family and then grabbing anyone over 14, putting a gun in their hands and forcing them to the frontline – where their life expectancy can be measured in days, or sometimes hours." http://tinyurl.com/d55ep3

Can you spot the civilian here? http://tinyurl.com/3ld4as3

p.s. are you too embarrassed to explain the LTTE suicide bomber killing Tamil children, above?

Was she (in your own words) a "Tamil Freedoms Fighters who sacrificed their lives for All Tamils" Please help end my confusion about where you stand regarding this "Tamil Freedoms Fighter".

I have read your comments several times on previous occasions but never replied

I am glad that you read my comments, but, at the same time, sad that you never bothered to reply any of them, nor face the challenges posted by me or Mango to explain certain incedents.

You can have a start by replying Mango's previous comment on how you rate the Suicide Bombers killing innocent Tamils…

I m sick of constant baseless accusations towards Tamil Freedoms Fighters who sacrificed their lives for All Tamils

Let me repost the link.. Click for the article – not from me, not from a blogger, but, from the renowned Asian Tribune interview with former MP of TNA, Hon. S. Kanagaratnam who is a Tamil himself.
    http://www.asiantribune.com/news/2011/04/19/final

    See what he says…

"More than 600 innocent Tamil civilians were shot and killed like stray dogs from 1 October 2008 to 18 May 2009 in the Vanni region, but not a single innocent civilian was killed by the Sri Lankan Armed Forces in the hostility campaign against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam – S. Kanagaratnam"

Now my dearest Meikandan – if you had read this report right and understood the content, you should realise the following.

    1. Hon. SK was in the midst of the happenings disobeying the government warnings and saw + Got involved with what was happening which includes regular discussions with LTTE.
    2. LTTE did ask the innocent Tamil civilians to decend along with them and killed who opposed
    3. LTTE did use them as human sheilds
    4. LTTE did shoot all who tried to escape, which also could include Nadesan and Puli.
    5. LTTE leader never wanted to surrender
    6. LTTE fired Arti to the no fire zones
    7. SL Army made escape routes for the innocent civilians
    8. They treated the wounded and the sick Even if they were LTTE carders

I can list more, but, I trust I have atleast captured the important points.

Also, if you had read all my comments prior to this, I had pointed out relentlessly many atrocities carried out by the LTTE against tamils including Politicians. They started the campaign by killing a Tamil (Alfred D)

So, how come you get struck by some kind of a lightning from Neptune to ask me why I condemn a retarded bunch of terrorists whom you have the odasity to call freedom fighters?? Is killing your own kind and hanging cyanide capsules around Children called freedom fighting ??? Wonder whether your brain has shifted locations…. (Only a thought) !

Indeed we totally trust the philosophy of 'Every Dog Having it's Day' !!
We saw how the Worse than a Dog retarded Terrorist Walapalle Piribaharan lost his life… What's sad is that on his way to his demise, he also took lives of many innocent Tamils (as per Hon. S.Kanagaratnam who was there to see it with his own eyes)

Also, it is sad to know that none of these nations you presume is on your side managed to save him from gong to Walapalle (Underground) :(… Hence, it is also possible and probable that you have jumped the gun your self without waiting for any verdict from the most important body of UN. Russia and China have already rubbished any allegations. So, let's not put the Cart before your Dog's and let your Dogs be in your house.

    Cheers Mate !

Can you please explain to us in your own terms, what you think of the barbaric acts carried out by the LTTE ?? (The side you are trying to defend)

It would be ideal if you could point out the acts and explain one by one your thought. You will get more marks if you can do a comparison sheet of the acts carried out by the GOSL and the LTTE.

Also, please let me know if you have an issue of finding these barbaric acts of LTTE, I have posted them may times before and will do the distance of re-writing for your benefit….
