How To: Write a Defiant Dictator's Speech

This recent clip from Amnesty TV (thanks to Amnesty UK!) gives dictators of the world advice on what to say when your nation’s people have taken to the streets calling for you to step down.

Because when the going gets touch, the tough ramble wildly for three hours on state TV.

  1. do you support amnesty? if so you are a racist hypocrite.
amnesty is a tool of western oppression of rest of the world.

while it is quick to accuse non west, not obedient to west, of violations human rights and crimes against humanity, even on no or flimsy evidence, it is yet to accuse usa and rest of its cronies of same even with very solid evidence .

how many more children (latest 30+ libyan children on tuesday) have to die by the hands of brutal military forces of west acting under obama's orders before amnesty call him a war criminal ? why is bush not in front of a court?

as long as amnesty fails to do so, it is guilty of racist hypocrisy .

don't support this racist hypocritical , tool of western oppression.

like all hypocrites, amnesty cannot stand truth and freedom of expression, and has censored similar comments several times here.

  3. I'm going to have to call bullshit, "Sittingnut." Children die in war because casualties occur; the US government is not targeting or encouraging the death of children. It's not a war crime. If you want examples of real war crimes, you're free to look them up.

I'd love to hear your argument for "racism," seeing as the US is lead by a brown man and these unfortunate events seem to occur in countries full of brown people. Is it because his shade of brown is slightly more mahogany than chestnut?

I'd love to hear your argument for "hypocritical," seeing as the US hasn't killed anyone for speaking out against its leaders (in fact it's the trendy thing to do), or sanctioned the rape of our enemies women, or championed the death of their children, or actively mutilated the survivors to horrify the world.

I've assumed by western societies you mean the United States, seeing as we're just about the only military force active in the regions you were mentioning. Oh, and people not directly involved directly die. It has happened in every war. It's a consequence of being in the wrong place in the wrong time. Sadly sometimes those people are children, but it's not a war crime because it is not intentional and it's not encouraged.

problem with your main 'argument' is that you are trying to defend america'a military not amnesty..

amnesty has applied double standards on what constitutes war crimes when usa's bestial military kill innocents ( far from their country's territory ) it is 'collateral damage'(!). when other non western countries do the same, fighting terrorists in their own countries, it is war crimes. as i said this is hypocrisy

what is more there is more substantiated evidence for crimes by usa and its western cronies,
to mention a few of many-
indiscriminate massacres at check points in iraq,
helicopter gun ships killing children and others knowing well who they are, and after getting clearance ( there are videos for both of above look them up if your propaganda feeder does not serve them )
carpet bombing of whole villages in afghanistan and pakistan.
( all this done bc usa values its cowardly soldiers over safety of civilians)

all killings( and most are of innocents) in pakistan are war crimes, bc all intrusions in to pakistan violate international law and person responsible for killing is not the pilots or drone controllers but obama/bush, ordering them.

these are clear war crimes with evidence , amnesty is yet to call them such .

in contrast it is quick to accuse non west of war crimes on flimsy or no evidence.

that is why amnesty is a hypocritical tool of western oppression. don't support it !

    -
btw person can be of any color and a racist . racist is person who apply double standards based on race/ nationality . .
    get it?

as such amnesty is racist .

(btw it is telling that even you equated obama with amnesty)

don’t support this racist hypocritical , tool of western oppression, called amnesty !

  6. I would have to wholeheartedly agree with sittingnut as this site shows nothing of the obvious constitutional violations happening in the the now virtual dictatorship in the US under Barack Obama and his "super-Congress". There are many who are already suffering less than human standard and a good 100 that have died as a result of cuts in heating and air conditioning subsidies in this brutal heat wave, not to mention Joplin, Haiti, Drought in Western US, and Floods in the Midwest… All in the midst of unemployment levels which far exceed depression standard. The whole thing is coming down to budget balancing genocide and it must be stopped. Glass Steagall NOW!

  11. To sittingnut and PatrioticPirate, perhaps you should explore AI's work a bit more thoroughly before you present assumptions as facts. AI is active in exposing human rights abuses in all countries, including "western societies" like the United States.

  13. Psychologists have found that humans display antisocial behavior when rejected by a love interest; I don't suspect one would be any more inclined to hesitation or guilt while in a foreign country brimming with people who want them dead.

(Because America is the most known western society at war today, I'll be fighting the accusation of AI's doubled standards by defending this countries' actions.)

I do not, nor have I ever, supported the war America finds itself in. War itself is a travesty, and it is difficult and frankly a bit arbitrary to segregate acceptable acts of war from war crimes. This is made all the more difficult by the sort of enemy the United States is currently facing; one practicing gorilla warfare, using civilians as shields. While I agree atrocities have occurred, please take a moment to try and empathize, and if you still feel there is imbalance, then try to imagine how little Amnesty International would be able to accomplish if they alienated patrons from the wealthy western societies. Perhaps it's the lesser of two evils?

I'd like some time to adress something that offended me in Sittingnut's response. America's soldiers are not cowards; these are the under privileged youth of a nation that promises them no other way out of poverty. I am no believer in the "I was just following orders" defense; everyone is responsable for what they do, regardless of what authority commands it. However, I beg you not to paint with such broad strokes. Yes, there have been cowardly actions of shame and humiliation and death and evil but branding an entire group by the actions of a minority is ignorance. It is equally ignorant to hating Muslims because of Islamic extremists.

  15. i think all can see that typical amnesty supporter zachary, unable counter me with reason and facts, is now reduced to defending how 'under privileged ' american cowards can brutally carpet bomb 'gorilla' children.
and his irrational foray on psychology would be very funny if we are not discussing war crimes
    enough said.

    Izclar:
when i see amnesty calling obama a war criminal for all the confirmed child murders (among other crimes) he has committed , as they have done to various non westerners (with no or less evidence), then i will stop calling amnesty a racist hypocritical tool of western oppression of non west .

if you cannot disprove the racist double standard but continue to support amnesty then you are a racist hypocrite too .fact.

  17. Since the 1950s Western imperialists have been in the business of regime change, assassinations and propping up client states to pillage the wealth of nations.
In 1953, England and America overthrew the democratically elected government of Mohammad Mosaddegh of Iran. The coup was orchestrated by the intelligence apparatus of both countries after Mr. Mosaddegh nationalized the oil industry that was controlled by foreign interests. They set up Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi (the shah of Iran) as a puppet authoritarian ruler who relied heavily on U.S. support.
In 1961, in the Congo, the CIA in collaboration with Belgium plotted the overthrow and subsequent murder of Patrice Lumumba—the country's first post colonial prime minister—and installed Joseph Mobutu who served America for 32 years until his own demise at the hands of Clinton administration backed proxies, Rwanda and Uganda. The war caused the death of 6 million Congolese.
In 1966, Ghanaian independence leader Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was deposed by the CIA using ambitious enemies from within Ghana while Dr. Nkrumah was abroad in China on a peace mission attempting to mediate the Vietnam conflict.
Another gross example of U.S. meddling in the affairs of others was the September 11, 1973 ousting and assassination of the legitimate, elected government of President Salvador Allende of Chile. The coup d'état was organized by the Richard Nixon administration and Chilean military, ushering in the brutal dictator General Augusto Pinochet. These are only three examples out of many that can be named as examples of America's pursuit of wicked foreign policy objectives.
A dictator becomes a “dictator” abhorred by his countrymen when he has overused his authority & power. These are good lessons for such leaders overstepping their power because they have come to equate power as their right. Such have been the countries that the West have been quick to ear mark & target for overthrowing these countries has been an easy effort to enter & dislodge these leaders. It is these very citizens who end up helping the overthrow take place, thus the non-requirement for stretched military equipment or personnel & the use of their own to minimize the casualties to their own countrymen. Collateral damage is what the West would call this. The countries where these leaders become “dictators” are often rich in natural resources which are one reason why they end up misusing the mandate given to them & becoming power hungry & their stooges & families end up devastating the country to which they are supposed to function as custodians.
It is the lack of answering this all important question that demands the West not to use these false clichés of “freedom from dictators” as an excuse. No sooner these “dictators” are overthrown the first thing the West ends up doing is to tap the natural resources, take over the economic hubs & privatize all channels that will supply their countries a steady flow of monetary returns & economic gain. All those who played an indirect role in aiding the West by providing support end up just turning their heads away. Therefore, when we all know Iraq was a mistake it is good to now ask whether Libya is going to be another – where the consequences to the future of the people of these countries were never part of the strategy or overall plan!
It is not hard to deduce that all of the efforts to overthrow Governments whatever type of governance has taken place in these countries are done so purely on the basis of acquiring the wealth of these nations. The calls for removal of these “despots” or “dictators” are mere slogans helped greatly by the mass media that provides the visuals of sensationalism to justify the overthrowing by painting the perfect picture of saviors against despots. It took no time for Mubarak of Egypt, the one time darling of the West to be portrayed with so much hatred by the media with no reminder to the public that he was an agent of the West. This is what is likely to happen to all other political leaders who think they will remain the darlings of the West & continue corrupt leadership.
In any democracy where people come to power on the strength of a vote it is natural that almost half the nation will not vote in favor of the overall winner. This is certainly not basis for any country to say that a leader is opposed & plans set to overthrow him.
The countries that are currently earmarked for regime change will know from diplomatic statements where their countries are heading for & this alone should suffice to ensure the country is set in order & issues that are likely to be used as excuses are properly taken care of. Corruption being one excuse is a perfect area to ensure that politicians, their stooges & the corrupt public service immediately function as they should & not as they want to run for the repercussions are far more dangerous in the present context.
If any country should be saved by the West it should be Palestinians suffering in Gaza for years as a result of Israeli. What does the US do instead – it vetoes Resolutions brought against Israel in the UN.
