[...] (ZLHR isn’t the only game in town when it comes to human rights lawyers, by the way. There are too many amazing examples to list, but another who was also just recognized for her work is Beatrice Mtetwa, who received the Ludovic-Trarieux International Human Rights Prize. She is only the second African to be so honored-the other was Nelson Mandela. Let’s hear it for the lawyers!) [...]

This is not the First Time that the Independence of the Judiciary has been called into question. More often than not the Government has ignored any ruling that has not been in their Interest (Does anyone remember what happened to the Daily News?)

So why is anyone suprised that the Lawyers for Adovocates are not being targeted by the Government.

Lessons learned are, of course, for everyone...not just for those who pull the socio-politico-economic strings...especially those involved in corruption and "ruling" with tactics of brute force. They are the last ones who may truly "learn" anything.

Lawyers collaborating with non-lawyers to become a force not to be "messed with" is what is needed. Moving outside the circle of lawyer-dom, and into the realities that don't involve the twisted interpretations that the "letter of the law" can bring. Yet, bringing a precise and well-presented protection lawyers can bring against corruption and brute force tactics of rulership.
